Is reality TV here to stay?

For some, reality TV has become gnawing and grating. Is this something that will stick around for good? (or bad, as the case may be)?

I hope not, then again- I dont watch Reality TV or any other type of TV. Too many damn ads, TV insults my intelligence every time I watch it. I watch only movies on the boob tube. :thumbdn: :thumbdn:

I don't care, what is there to watch on tv other than the news? Most of the shows I like have either run their course, or were crap to begin with. The only three I might watch are CSI, Law and Order SVU and Navy NCIS. If I had cable, I'd probably be stuck on Discovery, TLC and the History channel, but in reality I'd probably be on HBO and Skinemax all the time.

I actually watch a lot of TV now that i'm not a student and still unemployed.
However i can't stand those reality shows. The only shows i watch now are:

1) CSI - just 'cos i did forensic science at university and that's what i'm going to be anyway

2) House - One of the best medical dramas i've seen. I like the way they actually explain a lot of the diseases. AND hugh laurie is just awesome as House.

3) McLeod's Daughters - when it's on, everything in my household stops. My wife likes horses so she watches. However i've always had a thing about girls in cowboy hats.

Someone complained about ads. That's why i have Sky+ which is the equivalent of Tivo i think. So what i do is just record the shows i want to watch and fast forward through the ads. This is especially good for the documentary channels as the good documentaries are always at inconvenient times. With this set top box i have actually started watching more shows but spend less time watching tv just 'cos i can fast forward through the ads.

The most annoying time of the year is when Big Brother is on (which is now). There's a channel which basically is dedicated to showing these idiots almost 24 hours a day. And then there's the interviews, the chat shows on Big Brother. OH GOD, THE SUICIDE BOMBERS REALLY SHOULD HAVE GONE TO THE BIG BROTHER HOUSE INSTEAD OF THE TUBE STATION.

Is this something that will stick around for good

Dunno but I have never watched any of it and have zero interest to boot.
I'ts funny to me to hear everyone at work gab about American Idle or "Survivor" the morning after , I am clueless as to what they are discussing.
I did see the volcano and comet shows on Discovery last night though

To any of our UK brethren, is Red Dwarf still around over there? The guy at the video store told me that there was a new updated Red Dwarf series coming out, so I'm guessing that the original series stopped, at least some time ago.

I did a bit of research and I learned there are 8 series of Red Dwarf (each of six episodes) though the last was made a few years ago. They are always being repeated on the minor channels, though. It seems there is a film in the making.

Quite a bit of trivia on Wikipedia.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Dwarf

Andy.

As far as i know the series ended sometime in 1999. So that's quite awhile ago.
I haven't heard anything about a new Red Dwarf series. I doubt they'll start a new one. They'd rather churn out another reality show and make money off mobilephone text messages.
