IS REKAT MAKING THE GUNTING

Welcome to the forums Nexus 6.
From what I understand REKAT made the Escalator at one time. They stopped for some reason, I don't know why. Then Spyderco began production recently. I don't know the full history, I hope someone who knows more will educate us. I'm rather curious about it myself.

I believe that the design similarities of the Gunting and the Escalator may have been a source of conflict between forum members in the recent past.
I don't know the history of which came first or if they came at approximately the same time but both knives seem to be designed for the same niche.

Bram Frank designed the Escalator and REKAT manufactured it.
Bram also designed the Gunting, and from what I've read from him he considers it the "next generation" due to improvements he made in his original Escalator design. Spyderco makes the Gunting.
From what I understand the Escalator is no longer in production.
