Hey Guys,
I went to my hardware store some time ago and bought a bottle of Rem Oil, made by Remington, and I have been using it to lubricate my knives.
The bottle says "moisture guard, rust preventative" and "Teflon lubricant"

Is this oil ok for maintaining my knives? Will it harm my knives? and what oil should I be using instead?
Thanks

it's fine to use, but not one of the best lubricants. it won't hurt anything, but you'll have to use it more often than others, just seems to just disappear faster than other lubes. I use the same thing on my knives as my firearms, clp. it's a little thicker than Remington and just seems to lubricate better. I've used a little bit of motor oil before too.
edit: don't cut food with these types of lube though, and clp is harsh on wood and cheap plastic.

I have had much better luck with grease on my pivots. It requires disassembly, but it lasts MUCH longer. I usually take apart every new knife I get anyway, so doing that and adding a bit of grease to the pivot is normal to me. I use EWL Slip 2000 grease. The stuff last forever, and it's very slick. For my non stainless blades I tend to use mineral oil. It's food safe. I cut a TON of edibles with my knives. Also, Frog Lube is excellent and non toxic. Additionally, Frog Lube has a clean, minty smell. :)

I have been using rem oil with seemingly good results but I don't use my edc for food prep

REM oil is my #1 choice... No build up and works into tight places with minimal effart
