Is Satanite resistant to forge welding flux??

I'm rebuilding my forge right now, using kaowool, and I want to know what to line the bottom with. I just used the last of my castable refractory, and it wasn't enough. I've heard of some people using kitty litter and Satanite. Does borax eat that stuff?

Thanks,

Yes, it does. If you want absolute flux protection (or at least as close as you can get to absolute!), I highly recommend either Mizzou or Bubble Alumina.

Thanks, Darren! I was just at your website, checking out your stuff. I'd buy it from you, but I need it by Sunday. :D Next time. Actually, I'll probably get the alumina from you and put it on over the satanite later. Will that work? I think I can get the satanite locally, I'll call around tomorrow.

:) The Bubble Alumina can be placed over Satanite on the floor of your forge. For Vertical applications (side walls) it really likes to adhere to the bare Inswool better, but it's not too important for the floor of a forge.

Let me know if I can help out in any way, have a great weekend! :)
