Is someone selling copies of catalogs from schrade collectors site?

No doubt Larry Vickery will give his take on this....
My take is that if you print one of the Flyers from lrv's site it has an overlay of 'Property of Schrades R Us' which appears diagonally across the printing...
I have many original Schrade Flyers and catalogs collected over the years.....some I offer when I sell a knife to give more collector info' and sometimes I have photostated my flyers and give with the knife...all in the name of Schrade collecting information....can we ever have enough info about Schrade.....?
Many of these original Flyers exist..you can imagine how many went out to dealers across the U.S.......I would say this seller has access to some....

Is it wrong?...IMO No...any buyer who would or would not pay the asking price of a mere copy will likely decide if its value....my personal opinion having given away many and often include as a surprise to a buyer of a Schrade knife I sell...that is a ridiculous asking price and difficult to justify on any level...if they were selling originals..then its up to the buyer to determine what's value...originals are good for framing in any Schrade knife Den..like I have done many times....just my opinion since you asked....Hoo Roo

People have been selling copies of catalog pages and price lists forever on ebay. When I started collecting Schrades, I bought a couple of price list copies. Then I realized I could find them online and the copies were worth nothing anyway. Well, except to the guy that sold them to me. No good rascal that I am, I just saved 35 to 40 pages of photocopied Ulster catalog pages to my laptop that people are selling on ebay. Call it a 'FREEdom of information act' on my part. If I want photocopies, I can make them myself. (Does that make me a bad man?) It's like anything else on the web, you put your social security number out there and somebody is going to steal your identity. I really don't see the sense in selling copies on ebay, originals yes, but copies, no, since all that info is on the web for free anyway. Originals are collectable, copies are not. I just want the information. But always give credit where credit is due. Guys on the forums and websites have shared countless hours of their research with the world and they deserve the credit due them and our undying gratitude and respect. Thanks guys!

Here's how it works.....

Most of these short line catalogs are like you said Saddlebum are not too valuable. The 1983 is very interesting, and had a lot of unique knives in it. The exception for me are the Catalog E and Supplements from 1926 to 1938, they are worth purchasing if so inclined. But I'm good with having them as PDF's on my computer. I refer to all of these catalogs religiously.

Over the many years my site has been running I have had little issue with people copying from the site. I watermarked some of the material just to prevent the possibility of resellers. I have offered anyone who asked a clear copy for no charge in fact one of my flyers will appear on an upcoming American pickers where all they needed to was ask. These catalogs and flyers where masses produced by the thousands and where given away by schrade. They cost me nothing as they where gifted to me. I have never asked for payment for a copy. That said I can only chuckle at the prices these bring on auction sites. Enjoy my site. I update it often and there are many hundreds of items yet to come.

Many thanks for your site Larry. I have gotten quite an education from the resources it provides.:thumbup::thumbup:

The watermarks used on the site were to prevent unscrupulous individuals from printing and selling copies on eBay to collectors. While we did buy a few flyers and catalogs, for the most part they were gifted, many coming from the Imperial Schrade archives. It was our intention to put them into the public domain rather than hoard them and make people buy a publication to view them. Or a site subscription. Or a CD. Keep in mind that LRV bears 100% of the workload of building, upgrading and maintaining that archive including 100% of the associated costs.

I agree with all that is said about Larry's site. I have given Larry some stuff in the Western area and hope to get started a larger Frontier area. I refer a lot of people to Larry's site as it is a way to get your answer and learn a lot.
