I have just been trying to read up on Stellite 6k and i came across mention of it being bad for food prep as it is poisonous or at least poisonous elements in it. Is this true? If i were to get a Stellite 6k blade and use it for food related things, would i be jacking myself up?

So, after reading through all of that, am i correct in ascertaining that this stuff is only a possible health risk when being worked with and it is perfectly safe in finished blade form?

Perfectly safe in blade form, no. Safe for most purposes, yes. Obviously for some people who are allergic to nickel or chrome, etc., just handling the blade could cause problems.

Based upon reading the MSDS, Section 5, it is possible in food prep that contact with acidic or basic foods could liberate some metal ions or oxides from the blade. Slicing tomato, lutefisk, or lemon with Stellite and eating it once in a while may not cause problems, and on the scale of hazardous stuff in modern life it's probably low on the scale. But I would not choose to do it everyday. Just IMO, YMMV, etc.

Wear a respirator when grinding it but no its not poisonous.
