Is Strider defined as a custom knife and what defines one?

I was browsing the exchange page and saw that CRK's are not custom knives. I alway thought that Reeves knives were. What makes a knife that you purchase "custom" or "production"? I see that both Strider and Reeves uses CNC machinery. Is it the number of knives produced, the amount of hand finishing or what?

Is Strider a custom knife? Just new to this whole thing and wondering. 12 years ago in the military I had a Gerber Fixed blade due to my limited budget (looked at a LES while I was cleaning my desk and it showed I was making almost $800 a month when I was in). SNG's look great! Focusing on the EDC market, smart. Cant wait till they come out.

Thanks,
Todd

They're both. They have some production and some custom. I believe a custom ususally constitutes limited production and hand made.

DAMN you brought back some memorys! Is it the old green colored LES?

Sure was. I have a stack of them. Kept one or two so when I complain about not getting paid enough now I can put it in perspective! Military is still grossly underpaid unless your an officer.

Talked to an officer the other day and when he told me how much he made I couldn't believe it. What a difference compared to the enlisted ranks! And more than likely they got their college for free!

Take it easy,
Todd

Officers have clean hands I am sure, but the enlisted man is the real power behind the throne.

Most of my Lt's were so bright eyed they looked like Bambi the Deer watching the hunter. I remember one named Dorf. We used to take the letters from the Ford Tugs and reverse them in his honor.

I doubt he ever knew the difference!

I'm an enlisted guy, but I can't complain. If I wanted to be paid what they make, I would have to step up, get a college education (not easy), and volunteer to take on the Extra Responsibility that they are tasked with. There is no "Man" keeping elisted guys down. If you want what an officer has, step up. Otherwise, be happy with your place in life. Besides, you get to do more cool stuff as an E than an O.

I like KnifeBomber's attitude. I won't apologize for being an officer! I got my college diploma and fought long and hard for it. The Army didn't buy my college degree, I did. ...and most officers did also. They did buy me a Master's Degree, after I proved myself and competed with the rest of the officer corps for it, again, no apology. As a brand new 2LT Platoon Leader in 1976, my Platoon Sergeant (SFC Jones -- you never forget your first!) made me get into cover-all's and hand receipt a tool box and get down inside an M60A1 to help remove the power pac. He gave me a taste of enlisted life and it made me fiercely loyal to my platoon members. I made them work, but I backed them up against anyone who would abuse them or treat them unfairly. Just my way of doing things.

When I joined the Regular Army in 1976 I made $666 a month as a 2LT. When I retired from the Idaho Army National Guard as a LTC I made $666 a weekend, once a month! ...and I've saved all my old LES's also -- sometimes you can scan through them and some of the things on them bring back memories.

Many enlisted soldiers told me they hated to have to salute officers. I told them, "Tough! I have to salute everyone except those my own grade!! I salute twice as much as you do!"

KnifeBomber, I don't know what rank you are, but I bet if you stay in, you'll make Sergeant Major. Good serving with you.

PS: ...and I don't know if Striders are custom or production either. I bet they are in that gray area of "semi-production" or something like CRK, Randall's, etc.

I still have every LES, except for a few that got lost or destroyed.
I've served with a few good officers. I've also had a few that were a cross between Mr. Rogers and Goofy.:D
