Is tec-lok the way you rock?

Who uses tec-lok as their standard carry configuration? Do you prefer it with fixed blades or folders, and if with folders, is the blade carried locked open or folded?

Right now I have a tec-lok sheath for my Cold Steel Master Hunter. I love it. It's like having a new knife. I wear it behind the back horizontally on my belt for outdoor activities. I'm thinking of getting one for my Strider SnG and don't know if I want it open or closed.

I've used it a lot for my Cold Steel San Mai tanto, like it a lot.
Right now i carry my Strider GB in a tek-lok'ed kydex sheath EDC at work, work A-Ok.

I really like tek-lok's!

:)

A couple stupid questions. I have one tech lok sheath. How do you adjust it so it's tight on your belt? mine slides all over (back and forth).

Also, where are you guys getting your kydex sheaths??

Open your Tec-loc and you'll see a plastic "bar" held on by a screw in a slot. Loosen the screw, and slide the bar down to fit your belt, then re-tighten the screw.

I generally get my Kydex sheaths with the knives that I buy/trade for.

I have become a very big fan of the small tek-lok. I keep a small fixed blade on the shoulder strap of whatever bag I'm carrying. I also carry my Simonich crowfoot upsidedown on my belt. Tek-lok's really do rock. My knives came with cool kydex but if I needed more I'd call Normark.

I have used them a lot on sheaths, people seem to like them.

The only one I use is on my hunting rig and I clip it to my suspenders under my vest/jacket. It works great because I don't have a way to feed the suspender through an opening so I can clip around it.

Sorry, not a big fan of tek-loks at all. I find they make the "package" WAY too thick...besides, I usually carry my fixed blades in unconventional carry (e.g. spinal carry, static cord sheaths, neck sheaths, shoulder harness etc, etc,) so tek-lok is not very useful for me.

I should add to Glockman's response that the standard (large) Tek-loks are adjustable, but the mini Tek-loks are not. However, I've used the minis on 5 or 6 different belts, including some pretty thin dress belts, and they're always snug.

I prefer Tek-loks on my fixed blades because they are as secure as you can get. If they don't come with a Tek-loc, I usually add one. My EDC folder is a Gunting, and I carry that closed, with the knife clipped to a loop of speaker wire that I've threaded through 2 holes on a mini Tek-lok. It's very secure because the speaker wire has a plastic coating that provides a bit of friction on the knife clip. If you use paracord, or other "slippery" cord, the weight of the knife will pop it loose if you run or otherwise bounce around. I've used this rig for about 6 months now. I replace the wire every few months for peace of mind, but so far it's worked well. My knife is always in exactly the same place on my waist, regardless of the pocket layout, and the draw is always the same. If you clip it to your pants, sometimes it's tigher or looser depending on the fabric.

love the mini tec-loc, as long as I am wearing a belt.
if I need to clip to my waistband, I like the g-clip by On-scene Tachtical

Where do you buy Tek-Loks to add to a kydex sheath? I might want to add one to my CS Master Hunter sheath.

Ok, I found 'em with a Google search. Can anybody beat $7.95 for a Tek-Lok (large)? If not, I'm going to order a couple or three.

My Spyderco Bill Moran Featherweight just came yesterday, and it has a Tek-Lok kydex sheath that I really like. Yes, it is a little bulky and blocky, but it works really well. Right now I'm scouring the internet trying to find a Tek-Lok sheath combo for my new Nimravus Cub, which came with a kinda crappy kydex sheath with a snap-closure I don't care for (though the knife rocks!). Tonight at work I wore the Moran in small-of-the-back mode. That's never super comfortable for me, but it's nice to know that the position works well.

Actually not really. I like Normark's clip. I can't remember what you call it... perhaps a G-clip. Cause you can do IWB on those, but you can't do IWB on tek-loks.

I'm with calyth and RL. I have the Tek-Lok supplied with a lot of sheaths and on users I usually sub a g-clip or an IWB strap. The g-clip allows me to clip a blade on the waisband of sweats for a quick jaunt to the store.

Tek-loks,

Too damned bulky for anything thats going to be concealed.

I prefer IWB Southern comfort rigs made for the straight blades by Mike Sastre of www.rivercitysheaths.com

Static cord IWB sheaths made by Piorek are another system I find very concealable at the same time accessable with no undue bulkiness.

Tek-loks, not my cup of tea.

dont like 'em for concealed carry, too thick as mentioned by others, i like the MASS sheath system from bud nealy, is the best way for me anyway. DO NOT like buds other system, the MCS or whatever it is, tek lok is better than that, for how i carry anyway

only prob is ya gotta buy a nealy knife to get it, a good knife but too high for some.

tek loks are fine for carry when hunting/etc.

mini tek-loks do not have a screw adjust so how do you get them to fit snug to a belt. You would need a belt at least 3/8" thick to be snug.

Like them for open, outdoors use, but that's about it. As mentioned, you can't conceal well with them.

I prefer various methods of IWB carry for my blades and in my opinion, the hands down best method of IWB rigging is using one of Blade-Tech's pull-the-dot belt loops: http://www.blade-tech.com/frontend?command=ProductMatrix&iProductId=953&iSectionId=1000
You can put them on just about any sheath out there. They are perfect for carry that's not only secure but quick on and off.
