Is the American 300 series still made?

All the local retailers and big box stores around here stock the 370 models from China, but I can't locate a local dealer that carries the made in USA 300 series. Are they still made or have they been discontinued? Thanks.

"He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose".

WTH does that mean? Thinking I should e-mail that to my ex...but I'm not sure if means that I was the smart one ;)

Goose.

BTW, to keep this on thread...yeah, what Larry said.

Goose,
This was the favorite saying of Jim Elliott, one of the 5 Christian missionaries who gave their lives attempting to tell the good news of Jesus Christ to a tribe of South American natives in the jungles of Equador in about 1956 or 1957. A very recent movie, "The End of the Spear" tells the story in a very real, non-preachy way. It will soon be available on DVD.
To better answer your question, the concept is that we will take nothing out of this life (what we cannot keep) while eternal life (what we cannot lose) because of the finished work of Jesus Christ is available to all who confess their sins and believe in His work of redemption on the cross.
May I invite you to read the book of John in the New Testament? By the way, I am no "holy Joe". I am just one beggar telling others where to find food.

Thanks for the food for thought. So are they just less available around the DFW area, or are you finding them locally or only online?

Yep, I have a new one with the idaho tangstamp.

I also have a new 301 with an Idaho tang stamp. Funny thing tho,,,, Until the thread came up asking aobut the blade length on the 301, I didn't know it was an Idaho.

The Buck 301 USA is stamped on the clip blade, and the Idaho is on the sheepsfoot blade. I never noticed it till I was measuring the blades.

That particular knife was returned to me from Buck as a replacement for a damaged one I had sent in way back last fall.

I had often wondered if there really were no dot 301's laying around up there.

So my question is, are the newer 301's all year code stamped on the sheepsfoot blade? This is the only one I have. You can tell I am not much into the 300's even tho I have a small hand full of various older ones.

And Thanks L.O. for the explanation of your sig...very interesting.

Wow, that's how I got mine. I had purchased one of those "Last Production Run, El Cajon" 301's, and when I got it the Spey blade couldn't be opened until the Sheepsfoot blade was opened. I sent it back and Buck exchanged it with a Idaho stamped one. It's perfect! But until you mentioned it, I had not really thought about it, but the Idaho stamp is on the Sheepsfoot blade.

Very nice.
The Gospel is very close to me. I was going to be a Navy Chaplain until I realized that I was not a man that could give counsel in any way to anyone else. He keeps throwing me back for some reason though! Heart failure, blood poisoning, terrible wreck all in less than three years.
Thanks for the nice post.
Respectfully,
Goose.

A quick look in the safe found a 301 transition marked, upside down T date with Idaho on spey blade. A 303 transition marked, upside down T date with Idaaho on sheepsfoot and a plain jane 303 with Idaho on sf blade as date mark. I either need a 301 plain with Idaho or can't find it in my boxes. Oh no another one for the hunt list. TLC I think you have a blade exchange "especial' 301. Can post pic if needed. 3B

"Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established."

Today I bought a Cadet model, Idaho made, at my local Sports Authority for 20 bucks on clearance.....all the rest of their stock consisted of the Chinese made versions for lower $$...so it could be that they are getting rid of the USA versions and transitioning to the lower priced imported modles.

I noticed that a lot of local retailers have dropped the Gent in favor of the new Scholar as well. It's a shame to see, but I guess they get a better markup or higher unit sales or some such.

Sorry, Was offering to post pictures of the ones I had in hand, if need be.
Always enjoy pic's from everyones posts, even though it makes me wonder about paying nearly the same price for a old, black handled, contract made knife with odd facet like two brass spacers instead of one, as the exotic handled 110's. Maybe I need to brake the mould and someday get a stag 112,

I hear ya, so far I haven't really bought any Buck slipjoints to "collect", just use. I do have an old Camillus contract 301 with the rare "Winchester" shield that is unused, but I go back and forth on whether to keep it, or sell it to a real collector that will appreciate it more.

I have avoided buying a 112, fearing another collecting spree...:D

If you want to be different and need a edc user, find a model 313 that someone has abused the skinning blade or broken it and knock out the pins. Remove the blade and spring and center scale and re-assemble with just the clip point blade. Makes a very slim, easy to carry knife. Just has that feeling when it's open of being 'right'.
