Is the annealing process for forged 52100 the same as if just doing material removal?

Do I need another step for annealing a forged knife versus going straight to Larrin's DET anneal and HT? (1700f for 20 min, air cool, 2x 1460f for 30 min and air cool, 1525f for 15min, quench in medium oil)

Thanks!

Your procedure doesn’t list the actual anneal. It is supposed to be between grain refining and the final quench and temper.

Your second 1460F cycle needs a slow cool after the 30 minute soak either by placing the blade in vermiculite or set oven to ramp at 665F per hour with a target of 1260F then air cool.

Yeah, sorry, I do the cool down ramp, just forgot to add it. So, with that said, no more requirements for forged steel?

That plus the temper at the very end after quenching and you are good to go.
