Is the AXIS lock a "One-Hander"??

Hey guys! This is an honest question!! I do not own an AXIS (yet) but am looking at a 940 or a new 550. It seems VERY awkward to close the knife one-handed when I have looked at them. Is is just a matter of practice like the liner-lock or do you have to pull the lock and press the spine on your leg or other hand to get it to close? "Skilled" axis opinions would be appreciated!! (BTW, the new 550 is a great feeling knife!!!!!!!!)

It's the easiest lock I've ever felt to operate one-handed. Just pull the lock back with your thumb and push on the spine of the blade with your index finger. The rest of your fingers hold on to the handle and at no point is your flesh ever in the path of the blade!

BTW,

I have and LOVE the 940 and I soon plan on getting the 550. The 940 is nicer looking but I need to get that opening hole/axis combo!

Speaking on behalf of my 710HS, I'm confident that with a little practice you'll get the hang of one-handed operation in no time, no legs or off hands required.

I do mine with one hand. Have a BM720. I think the BM site has an animated GIF showing proper technique. I use thumb and middle finger to pull back and index finger to push closed. Just make sure all flesh is out of the way, it kinda snaps shut the last little bit.

That makes sense and the vidclip helps. I have been holding it like my LCC and so trying to use my index finger to push the blade without the middle finger on the lock . . . I'll give that a try once I get my 550 next week! I love how SOLID the lockup is with the AXIS. It feels great! (Must confess, almost wound up bleeding on the store 940 today while trying! Wouldn't that be embarrassing!?!)

I can open to a full lock and close one handed in about 1 second one handed.Forget the stud, slide lock back with thumb flick wrist while releasing lock, slide lock back with thumb, flick closed.About the time I can say "click..click" 710 btw.Have fun.

Roger, at Bayou LaFourche has some coming and said he should have them out the first of the week. The preproduction models are scattered around at some shops like the one I got to look at today at a local gunshop. (The prepro is comboedge and has the "griptillian" logo on the blade that the production model will not have according to Dexter.)

BTW, thanks for the info guys . . . I was feeling kinda dexterity impaired! Practice, practice, practice!

The axis is a great one hander. You don't have to touch the blade to close it, just pull back on the bar and give it a little flip and you are good to go. Opens the same way.

And, unlike a liner lock or integral lock, you won't have to bring your thumb across the path of the edge in order to unlock. All finger parts are out of the way all the time. Cool, huh?

710 one of the best knives i own i am left handed so knives can be a problem sometimes but the 710 is not one of them it opens easy locks up good i love the axis lock feels good and works even better the clip can be changed around not to many knives can do that
