Hello everyone,

Does anyone know if the Ayoob is discontinued for '03? I really want to get one, so I need to know if I should purchase now, or if I can wait it out.

For those who own one, how do you like this model?

Thanks

Just got my Ayoob today - all i can say is, it's amazing. This is my first knife of this sort (having also looked at and contemplated several other popular brands)and the quality is superb. The handle is the new matte finished one, the angle at which the blade is at feels really nice. Very solid, no play in the blade at all. The Ayoob is a very elegant knife that happens to be a MBC blade :).

Can this finish be applied to the slicker ones? I've got two (SE) and would like to have at least one done if its possible. If not, I guess I'll try to trade for one.

Thanks Carlos.

Just need to double-check something here. It was my impression that only the serrated Ayoob was discontinued, not the plain edge model. Either way, it's unfortunate as the serrated Ayoob is one of the most useful designs I've encountered. I picked up a factory second, removed the clip, applied grip-tape to both sides of the handle, cleaned up the action and now it seems I never go anywhere without it. It's so easily carried in a coat pocket or fits comfortably and securely under the waist band. It handles any utility chore while also inspiring confidence as a self-defense tool because of its seriously aggressive appearence and loud metallic pop when flicked open quickly. I own some seriously awesome custom folders of similar size but there's just something about the Ayoob that causes me to reach for it day after day after day...............

Folks,

I am just in the process of trading for one of these beauties, and I was wondering if you could tell me what different handle materials have been used. The one I am getting is shiny, and looks like micarta? Is this possible? I have read elsewhere that some came with Almite-coated aluminum handle. In any case, they are a really neat design which I think I am going to enjoy using. How do you Ayoob users find this model to work for everyday cutting?

Thanks for any comments, Jeff/1911.

Jeff,

Handles of the MA are almite coated aluminum. The first version was "shiny" and smooth, not very grippy but quick to deploy from a pocket/IWB. The second version featured handles that were textured somehow, evidently the slick handles were what most people complained about. I have never handled one of the more recent versions. Too bad it was discontinued, it would have been awesome in G-10.

All variants have been discontinued.

Pachucko,

Thanks. The finish in pictures I've seen sure looked like micarta...I thought it was.

Best wishes, Jeff/1911.

Pictures of these can be kind of tricky. I thought they had stainless steel liners for a while. The handles are only coated to the level of the "bevel," attractive but confusing until you get to inspect one closely.

I just wanted to add that I ended up purchasing an Ayoob. It is only my second Spydie, after my Delica, and I really like it. The only thing I would change would be a non-painted clip and perhaps a G-10 handle. The steel can be a bit nippy on cold mornings and the grip isn't as secure as G-10. Those are minor issues. I love that the blade is VG 10, the lock seems very strong (no movement whatsoever), and opens with a satisfying "clack" that puts the Delica to shame. Plus it looks mean as hell. I got it from www.newgraham.com; the transaction went very well, and I imagine they have more in stock.

Thanks for listening
