Is the benchmade 530 flimsy?

I am thinking about one but afraid that it will be flimsy.

How does it compare to the 930 kulgara? for people who have both?

530 is very light and slim, only for slicing. Kulgera has an elegant view but very tough built, much more solid then 530. If the weight is important, take 530. Also there are different blade steels: 154CM at 530 vs S30V at Kulgera.

This one is s30v rei exclusive . Its the reason I am thinking about this knife.

As stated before it is very light and incredibly thin.So if you were thinking of prying with it that's out of the question. You can find the thickness of both from the benchmade website.

Is a fantastic folder, and one that will stand up to what I consider "medium duty" use, similar to what I'd expect my Spyderco Caly 3 to handle. It isn't a folding prybar, but it isn't what I'd consider flimsy either. In S30V, it should be sensational!

REI Stores don't always carry what is on line, best to call first. Shipping is now free over $75 for members. Members don't forget to use the MEMBER20 coupon till 18 Apr if you haven't already for 20% off. Or become a member for $20 to save $26.

I was wondering what I was going to get with my dividend. :)
With the 20% coupon, member dividend and the remaining balance of a gift card I got last year. I ended up paying $18 for this knife out of pocket.

Just got mine yesterday and the S30V blade IS sensational. Given it's thinness and knowing how Benchmade heat treats their steel, it's easily one of the sharpest out of box I've handled.

The Grivory scales will flex just a little if forced, but the knife is a very solid performer. At 3.25" it's enough length for utility purposes, and the Axis lock is very strong.

Money-wise I had to choose between this and an M4 Ritter and this was the better deal with my discount and dividend.

Everything is relative. For a 2 ounce knife (!), it's plenty beefy and strong.

It's a great knife, should outslice 99% of the knives out there! As long as use use it as intended (i.e. cutting things, not prying), it will serve you well. A side note, my regular version wasn't as smooth as some of my other axis lock knives out of the box, but after using it for a few weeks, then pulling the blade and cleaning and oiling the pivot, it's perfect.

take care,
caleb

My point was that since it's an extreme slim and light knife. You do sacrifice horizontal ridgity because of thinner liners and handle materials compared with the 710.

It's not as strong as a beefier knife, but it's FAR from flimsy. I want one of the blue ones now--it looks so much cooler than my black one. :( :p

For their size/weight they are the largest strongest knife in their class. The price tag is just a bonus. IMO this is one of the "must haves" for any knife collection. Makes a great gym/workout/hiking/running/biking knife.

I pawed one in a local shop for months each time putting it back down thinking that it was flimsy for the price. Then, I thought about it more, and I realized I wasn't thinking right. It's an extrmely light knife which might lead one to believe that it might be flimsy, but light weight is a very good thing for an EDC. Once I went back and looked at the knife in those terms, also considering the Axis lock, 154CMblade, and bronze-phosphorus bushings, and I glady paid the price. The clip came off and this knife virtually disappears in my pocket. this knife is heavy duty enough for the vast majority of my cutting jobs. I'll be carrying this as my EDC this week and will be glad that I gave this great knife a second consideration.
