I have been looking at this one specifically- http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=BM15020
I am asking mainly because I had never heard of D2 Steel prior to looking at this knife. Sorry Im kinda a noob still but trying to learn! Also will I be able to sharpen this ok with a Spyderco Sharpmaker, I dont wanna wreck that flat grind, At least it looks like one.
Thanks in advance

D2 steel is very good steel.

You should not have any trouble keeping it sharp with the Sharpmaker.

The Bone Collector is a great knife and it should give you many years of great service.

Awesome thank you very much! I have been going back and forth between the Presidio Ultra or the Bone Collector, Is the 38 dollar difference worth it?

Tough choice but I'd go with the Bone Collector and D2 if you have the extra money.

I have the mini Bone Collector and love it.

Yes, the blade steel is better on the Boner.

There is nothing wrong with 440C, but D2 will hold the edge longer. It is also a bit harder to sharpen.

Don't let the D2 edge get too dull or it will take a while to sharpen on the Sharpmaker. The easiest thing to do is touch it up regularly.

Sometimes...nicknames are a bad idea.

I just ordered the mini version today. Really looking forward to getting it.

Good choice. The mini Boner is sweet ! :D

Easy to see that sarge's mini boner:eek:;) has been put to good use!

I have the model you are looking at and have to say that is a very good value as already mentioned. The knife feels very solid and has some weight to it, 5.6 ounces, that makes it feel great in my hand. BM does a good job with both their 154CM and D2, at least in my experience. The BC has the same handle as the Presidio except the BC is in sculpted G-10 vs the Presidio's aluminum. For me the G-10, backed up with full steel liners, is my choice 100% of the time.

Do remember reading that someone took the blade from their Presidio and put it in the BC handle. Pretty sure it was here on BF.

I had and extremely difficult time deciding on the small or the large. At some point I may end up with both if I like this as much as I think I will. Wanted the large more, but knew I would not carry it as much.

Sargent, great pic. I saw your youtube vid on the knife. You definitely put your knives to good use. That 723 of yours is still my favorite.

What have you been cutting? :eek:The last time I saw a blade that looked like that was when I used a Mora to trim asphalt shingles and there was a layer of tar stuck to the blade!

To the OP - check out the 15020-1 - they have it for the same price. It has laminated green & black G10 layers - very nice looking handle (I have had one for months.). Their picture is of a serrated blade (Yuck!), but they describe a plain blade. Super knife. Not much for the Bone Collector skull on the blade, but it's a great knife all the same.

I am kinda looking for a tactical knife as well. Although I am not sure as much on the Bone Collector being tactical? I am sure I can defend myself if necessary with it. I dont know could it be used for a tactical. If not which would be a good one?

That's an interesting question. What are the characteristics of a tactical knife, and which of them does the Bone Collector have/not have?

How does one know if a knife is 'tactical'?
