Is the Benchmade Red Class N690 steel any good? How does it compare to other steels? Is it corrosion resistant? Does it hold an edge? How does it compare to AUS 6, AUS 8, 440A, 440C?

Isn't the N690 steel used by Extrema Ratio ? If so, I've been hearing good things about it.

I think you may need to wait until they actually come out before most of those questions can be answered.

The fact that they are using N690 makes me wonder where they are being made, it doesnt make sense that they would use N690 on asian knives, since it is a european steel, unless for some reason they got a relly good price or it drives down prouction costs.

If you look at N690's make up it looks very similar to VG-10, i would also guess that it is superior to 440C since it has the added cobalt, but there is no way to know what it will be like, since the heat treat that BM decideds to use will be the real factor.

But benchmade has never used a steel that wont hold an edge, on the new lower priced knives they have used 440c and AUS8, there is no 440A or AUS6 comming out from benchmade, my guess is they want to stay just above the true entry level knives.
