The BK3 is obviously unique in the lineup, and all the other knives are fairly focused on bushcraft/outdoor use... Does the BK3 even work well for that sort of thing?
I know I've seen posts from zzyzzogetnn saying he often uses his around the ranch/farm for clearing brush or trees, working on fences, digging roots, etc. I'm pretty sure all of this counts as "outdoors."
If you search, Moose has a thread about him and the Mrs. showing off the BK3 in the field. I personally keep mine in my go bag as my "key to the city."
The BK-3, great for it's intended uses and price point could, I suppose be used for "outdoors stuff" but, as stated, would not be a first choice.
The rest of the Becker line would, IMO, be better at outdoors applications. In that vein, the Becker line-up is a superb offering of knives that excel at outdoor applications.
Yeah it can be a capable woods tool. I'm sure Doc Canada will be around soon to espouse its virtues, but in the meantime here's one of his write ups (Lots of good stuff in there)
I've done some chopping, batoning, digging, and chopping up roots with mine. It didn't really excel at chopping (my BK2, the only other large Becker I owned at the time, was much more efficient) but, overall, it got the job done.
