Is the Buck TOPS Nighthawk the same as my old Buck Nighthawk?

I ask because my Cattaraugas 225Q with the beat-up sheath fits well in the sheath of my 6" Nighthawk. So the nylon and plastic sheath for the Buck TOPS Nighthawk might be just the thing, if it's the same knife as the pre TOPS Nighthawk.

There is a model 650 Tops and a 655 short Tops. The first has a 6.5" blade the second has a 4 7/8" blade. If you are asking about the 650, I believe that's the blade length of the original Nighthawk. I like the shape of a Quartermaster. DM

Thanks. It looks like I'll be OK with a tops 650 sheath. (My Nighthawk is 6" from point to thumb-rest, and 6.25" from point to vertical part of handle.)
I like the straight-backed six-inchers, but especially the 225Q.

scrteened, welcome to the Buck Forum. I went back 12 years in Buck's catalogs to 2004 and they list the 650 Nighthawk as having a 6 1/2" blade. When they first came out I held a 1999 or 2000 model in my hand and measured it. It was just shy of 6 1/2". I'm sure some could be more shy than others. But that's the specs. on it. I like a straight spine sheath knife as well. Buck makes several popular ones. The model 124 comes to mind.
There is some history on your model here in Knife Reviews. DM

Thanks for the welcome and the research.
Yup, I've always coveted the 124 for its blade shape and its handle's being longer than the 119/120. Maybe someday.
Anyway, I've ordered a tops 650 sheath and if it's a hair bigger than what I've got, that's better than if it were a hair smaller.

Good, that should hold you for a while. In use, do you prefer the 225's saber grind and pommel? Your welcome. I'll honor that knife's 75 years of history.

I can't claim to have used the 225Q yet. It's the first one I've handled that has its handle intact, and it feels great. I wonder if the 124 was inspired at all by the 225, and whether the 124's longer handle places the balance point similarly to the 225Q's heavy pommel on a shorter handle.

I got the tops 650 MOLLE sheath today and don't much like it. For the time being, my nighthawk is luxuriating in the huge and complex 650 sheath, and the Catt is in the old nighthawk sheath.
