Is the Buckmaster regaining its popularity?

I notice from several threads that there is some renewed interest among forumites for the Buckmaster.

When it first came out, some people complained about its weight and its bulk. I can imagine that it did capture the imagination of Buck followers for a short duration of time.

That so-called era has since passed. Suddenly, in recent weeks the shadow of the Buckmaster was seen again.

Curiously, why the sudden interest in this survival knife.

Personally, I like this knife. I have two. The Buckmaster has a real solid feel to it.

Did the Buckmaster ever actually become unpopular? It had a big boost at the beginning from the Rambo knife craze, but it was fairly popular all the way through to the end.

It is a heavy knife that feels more like an industrial tool. Well made and solid; and, not the most comfortable of knives, it is a (perhaps the) classic example of the hollow handled survival knife. The Buckmaster has come up on threads fairly consistently since the forums went on line. I see no specific trend. Although, now that the knife has been out of production for a while, it is starting to pick up some collector interest.

I think that it would (have been) alot more popular if it didn't come with that darn saw (or at least was also available without the saw, like the Gerber BMF), and those pointy things that screwed into the guard...I'll bet alot of those spikes got "lost" as they really interfered with the grip.
