Hi Everyone,

Is the button lock mechanism self adjusting? from what I know it is similar to the access lock but not exactly.
What advantages or disadvantages would the button lock have compared to the access lock.

Thanks in advance.

I really like the button locks on my Hogue knives they are self adjusting and do break in over time. The only issue I have had is they can be a tab bit sticky at first but once they wear its smooth sailing.

MadMullet is spot on they do stick a bit but keep playing with it and it becomes buttery smooth. The only disadvantage I can think of on a button lock compared to the axis lock is it is more favored to right handed people in most cases unless you can find a lefty button setup. Other then that they lockup amazingly.

Well there are different styles of button locking knives. I believe they are all self adjusting though.

The button lock has 2 parts. The AXIS lock has 5, and you can't buy replacement omega springs.

Both locks are great, though I don't think the OP is looking for a debate......
In my experience, button locks (at least on my WH) seem to get smoother over time

Hogue's button lock is great, should the lock ever fail, the safety will keep the lock from completely disengaging, same for Benchmade axis assist's which have safeties as well.

Allen has some awesome videos on youtube of him testing the button lock on his Hogue knives.

They rarely break. And if they do, Benchmade will replace them.

Plus you can make your own with a piece of wire, some needle nose pliers, and 15 minutes of your time. How many other knives can you fix at home if you want? Other than the rare omega spring that can break, the AXIS lock is pretty bomb proof. Plus the AXIS lock uses two springs so if one does break, the knife will still work. And if somehow both were to break, you can wedge something behind the lock bar and still have a very secure knife.

And doesn't the AXIS lock have 3 parts? Not that the number of parts has anything to do with anything. A liner lock has one part and I've had more problems with them than all other types I've tried combined.

Hi and thanks for the replies everyone. I was looking at one of Hogue's knives actually. Thanks for the info.
