My local ordinance bans knives with a 3 inch or more blade. I heard the Caly III is just basically an UKPK with a lock and VG 10 steel. I know the UKPK has a blade that is less than 3 inches, but in alot of knife selling websites list the Caly III as having a 3 inch blade.

I assume it may be just one of those "simplifying" things. Like Spyderco's own website lists the Delica as having a 2 7/8 inch blade, but most knife selling websites list the Delica as having a 3 inch blade.

So is the Caly III's blade length less than 3 inches?

Hi Long distance,

The design spec for the Caly3 calls for a blade length of 3". They are hand polished and hand sharpnened so they could be .020 longer or shorter. I don't think you would have a legal problem with the size of the model if the legal limit is 3" in your area.

We are very conscious of blade length limitations in many areas, so our blades will "generally" fall into sizes based on legal resgtrictions. 2.5" in Boston, 3" in many areas, 3.5", 4", etc. We occasionally make one at 3.25" or 3.6" becasue of the design parameters of the model (such as a Paramilitary).

If 3" long Caly3 is a problem, than get Kopa. Blades looks alike and it is only 2.5"
Just a suggestion. She is an exellent knife.
