Is the chape useful?

Is there any reason for the chape to be there? I've removed the chape from by Chitlangi and believe that the sheath looks better and requires less maintenance. Is there any reason why I shouldn't remove the chape from by other cheaths?

I don't know anyone who likes them, I leave mine on- just in case we discover a use.

In the unlikely event your kuk snaps in battle, you can use your scabbard with its chape as an expedient weapon.

That's been suggested before. Last time this was bandied about a final dry opinion arrived by some authority or another, who stated they were there for the same reason they're found on swords- to protect the tip.

Sort of strange. I can't imagine the khuk getting dropped or bashed while in the scabbard and the chape perform this service. If you dropped a khuk, you wanna bet it would land on the handle or side?

Meanwhile, my chapes are still on. For the Truth is Out There.

Uh...

That was a joke. My Chitlangi chape is out in the woods somewhere. Guess the grip tape around it really helps hide the reflection.

I thought it was a joke. But ever onward...

It's funny you mention the chitlangi; that is one of my khuks where the brass point actually does dig into my leg.

The chape fell of my BGR- baby ganga ram. I never put it back. Wonder what happened to it?

I'm missing a Frog, too; I used the one Pappy gave me now can't find the original for the Chiruwa AK.

This is all stuff my descendents will be chucking left and right at the garage sale in 50 years. When I think about all the gun debris....

I could volunteer to help your load by taking some of your gun debris.

Always thoughtful, that's me!
