Is the clicking sound normal for the tri ad lock?

Whenever I softly open it when I go to close it it makes a clicking sound. Whenever I flick it open with a lot of force it doesn't make that sound when I close it. This is my first tri ad lock and I wanted to make sure if that was normal.

A few of my tri-ads do that as well. Doesn't seem to affect function in any way. I would say don't worry about it, I don't.

I noticed that on my Recon 1 but not on any other Tri-Ad I have. Not sure what it is, but it doesn't seem to indicate any sort of functional problem (i.e., knife locks/unlocks just fine).

The triad lock uses a self adjusting lockbar that can shift a little. Different opening force might cause slightly different engagement position, which can result in that click. My Lawman had it while my Recon 1 didn't. I disassembled my Lawman and applied a very thin coating of grease to all the lock parts, this got rid of the click.

Do you think there Is a way to remove the click sound without taking it apart?

You could get some Militec with the needle applicator (or just get their needle applicator and screw it onto the thin grease of your choice) and try squeezing some down in around the lock bar pin. Disassembly would certainly be the best way, but this might work okay.

Possibly. It's actually a pretty easy lock/knife to disassemble, because all the forces are in line with the blade, so you can usually take off the scale and still have everything sit exactly where they should/were. The first time I disassembled a triad-lock knife (Recon 1) I opened the knife, lay it flat on a table (in the same orientation as the picture below) and unscrewed all the screws on the side facing me. I jiggled/worked the top scale off, expecting some parts to shift a little, and I was quite surprised that nothing shifted a bit. It's all very tight in there. But if you are really opposed to attempting disassembly, I would do what G. Scott H. suggests.

It's not always easy to diagnose, but the clicking probably comes from the lock/tang interface or from the lock/stop pin interface, but the cause (in my case) was some binding at the rocker pin, where the lockbar's self-adjusting oval hole was not sliding as free as it could. Because I disassembled it, I just cleaned all the surfaces of all the parts, and wiped an (basically) invisible layer of lube on everything and the problem went away.
