Is the Dragonfly 2 a preview of the Delica 5?

I love my Delica 4. A while back, I posted how the Delica was on the very bottom of my shopping list, but as I kept looking at it, it made its way into my shopping cart. Now, I can hardly keep the thing out of my pocket. It is such an amazing knife that I really thank Spyderco for making.

So, I went ahead a bought a Dragonfly 2. I must say, this knife is amazing.

I recall a while back, in one of several threads talking about possibilities for what a Delica 5 might have. Well, I can't but help and wonder, or should I say, hope, that the Delica 5 (an likely the Endura 5) will have the same features of this amazingly well designed Dragonfly.

1. The wire clip. I've heard mixed feelings, but at the moment, I'm a fan.
2. The finger choil. I really love having the option to choke up on the knife.
3. No finger grooves. This just gives the Dragonfly such a sleek look when closed. On a larger knife, I can only imagine this opening up the handle to any sized hands/fingers.
4. Swedge. It just looks sweet.
5. Not sure what it is called, but I never liked it much when you could see that gap at the back of a blade when closed. Finger choil gap? The Delica/Endura has it, the Dragonfly don't. I dig it like that.

All of these are great winning points of the Dragonfly 2 that I really hope make it into future iterations of the Delica and Endura. As much as I seriously love the Delica, the Dragonfly just seems to have some really refined points that I feel the Delica could take some lessons from.

I agree on the wire clip; however, I consider the Endura/Delica models to be a "stand-alone" line. There are so many other Spyderco models that cover the design elements you mention, that creating an Endura or Delica with those elements would pretty much give you one of the other Spyderco models.

Just my opinion.

That is a pretty good point. What refinements would you like to see in a Delica 5?

I think all they have to do is grind down the stupid finger groove in the middle and possibly add a bushing pivot. A metal backspacer could be added just for kicks. Then you'd have a damn-near perfect knife.

Oh, one thing I'd really like to see are full-length liners rather than nested ones. Just make the FRN as slabs rather than purposed to house liners. Then sandwich full-length liners between that and the backspacer (what I have in mind here is the way the Kershaw Needs Work is done.) That would make for an awesome knife.

Some of my ideas are similar to THG's ideas above.

Things I'd love to see in the Endura & Delica line:

- Wire clip.

- Steel back spacer.

- Full size liners, not nested; and full size scales. That would allow more options for scale mods, and more options for Spyderco to use different scale materials.

- Make different blade shapes available. A hawkbill on a Delica frame would be a gift from the Gods . . . and just the idea of a sheepsfoot on an Endura frame makes me little heart flutter. (Ya'll listenin', Mr. Glesser? ;))

- Slightly thicker blades on the Endura, with full [non-saber] convex grinds. Maybe a special run like that? Would make an awesome camp & survival knife, in my opinion.

- Blade grinds: saber and flat grinds available on all models; serrated, partially serrated and plain edge too. (Seems like all the new colors of Enduras & Delicas have only flat grinds?)

- Scale options: Stay-Glo or whatever material glows in the dark, like the EDC Manix 2 SFO's. Maybe a special run of titanium Enduras & Delicas, maybe with H1 steel?

I hope they never put a choil on the Delica, frankly I think choils ruin knives. It is easy to choke up on a knife without a choil. However using a regular grip on a knife with a choil (not choking up) really limits cutting power. And cutting with your finger on the choil always tends to feel awkward as hell.

Hmm....i am not a wire clip fan and wish they don't get on beautiful Delica.
Wire clip also does not allow carrier to wear it much lower then I don't want it on. Low pocket carry can be an upgrade for Delica/Endura and I think many have looking that feature.

This^.

I am the opposite, I wish they get rid of the liner and go back to having a thinner stock blade. Spyderco makes lots of knifes. No reason to turn a classic into another clucker.

I also don't know if I care for the Delica getting heavier. I would just be pleased as punch if it took some lessons in refinement from the Dragonfly... or if the Dragonfly just came in a little bigger size.

I agree, but I think choils work on smaller knives, not larger ones. I don't understand what a "choking up" on a large blade even means (e.g. the Paramilitary, Military, Manix, etc.) If you want a choil on a small knife, there's the Sage, Native, and Caly. Leave it off of the Delica/Endura.
