Is the Edge Pro video any good?

I hear that the written instructions that come with the Edge Pro sharpeners are good. Is it worth the $10-$15 for the video? What is covered on the video?

My ever-indulgent wife got me a Pro for Christmas, which comes with the video. I found it helpful in several small ways, especially being able to see how to set the ramp and move the knife.

The video covers everything in the booklet. I found that, after watching the video, the booklet was easier to understand.

Besides, what's a better way to end the day than to pop some corn and curl up on the couch to watch a sharpening video?

I was disappointed in the video.

To start with it was too short and the actor ( Ben maybe ? ) hurried through the steps. This video could have been twice the length and gone into far greater depth, at no additional cost to Ben or the consumer.

The instruction book is very detailed but the video has merit for
those purchasers that , for example, would not know how to file a piece of metal.

This happen to a friend of mine with no metalwork experience.
He had read the Edge Pro instruction book but NOT seen the video.

When he tried to use the Edge Pro he was sliding the hones
parallel to the blade edge. In this case, the video would been been a benefit.

Crayola, I have the video somewhere in my house, if you want I could send it to you. I don't remember much about it really, the EdgePro is very easy to master.

I would say that it is worth it.
It really helps, mainly by showing how easy it is.

Also it helps stop bad techniques creeping in. I watched it a couple times when I first got the Apex and then jumped straight into sharpening. A few weeks ago I was going to lend it to a friend and decided to watch it again, only to notice that a few bad habbits had creeped into my technique.

When my Edge Pro Apex shows up with the video, I will put this on along with the Spyderco video as a double-feature. Now all I need is a cartoon to run in between the two shows.

:)

Thanks for the great info everyone! Once again, great forums we have here.

Berettaman, I' love to take you up on your offer! Please shoot me an e-mail: krejman@telusplanet.net

I'll send you some $$ to cover postage, as I live way up here in Canada! Well, it isn't way up here; I am only an hour from Montana. But I am much more than an hour from where you live!

Boink: double-feature knife porn, great! You think I can get my fiancee to watch the sharpening ivdeo with me   :D

Ben attends many knife shows. I have learned much from watching him sharpen knives at the Eugene show and asking a few questions. Plus knife shows are much more fun than watching the video. ;)
