Is the ESEE 3 a good skinner?

Anyone use the ESEE 3 for a skinner? I shot a skinned out my first moose and mule deer this year. I also butchered the deer with the help of a friend. All my old knives were inadequate. I recently bought a custom Hankins knife in 1095 from the forum here that may be a good skinner, but I love the curved blade, thin blade on the ESEE 3. I have never even seen an ESEE in the flesh. What do you think? Good skinner?

The 3 is a very good skinner IMO. Plenty thin, but not overly so, just right. I also like the serrated version for doing up feral hogs.

I haven't skinned with one yet, but from the blade shape, length, and overall knife ergonomics... I think it would be stellar on deer sized game and bigger.

I was planning on using my 3 to skin a moose this year. Never got the chance though.:grumpy:

But ya, it will be fine.

The 3 seems like it would be very well-suited for skinning chores. Quality steel, thin stock, appropriate grind.....it would be my ESEE of choice for skinning the game you could find in my neck of the woods.

It is great. I used my 3 to dress and skin a whitetail deer last night. Best knife that ive used.

I've seen a bunch of pics of a few bucks skinned by using the ESEE 3 here on the forum. They've all said that it's an absolutely great blade for skinning any type of game due to it's size, shape, and thickness. The pics I've seen said it all.

I use it for prepping fish alot. The point is good and defined and it's a well performing slicer, though when the G10 scales get full of organic matter they're the most slippery knife I ever wrap my hands around. As far as blade design, the only thing to make it a better skinner would be to convert the grind from flat to scandi. The handle leaves much to be desired.

I've used the 3 and 4 for skinning deer. They work great, but so does any other good drop point knife with good geometry and sharpness ;)

ESEE mods should ban this troll.

:D ;)

I have used my RC3mil before - like others said it's a great knife for the job.
