Is the Espada L and Espada XL limited production? How likely to become a collectors item? Is the XL too big?

Will the higher end Espada XL and Large ever be valuable? Are the mass produced? Is the XL good for anything or just too big and heavy that you might as well have a fixed blade?

It can never be too big. Not if you know what to do with it.

See, sometimes, if they're big enough, all you have to do is show it. And people will run.

All CS XL models are hilariously huge! I say get one for grins, but not necessarily the more expensive limited models.

I’m not sure how the Taiwan made models value will increase over time. The US and now Japanese models have done well, but the numbers produced are lower I believe.

My buddy has the XL and when he waves it out of his pocket it’s pretty hilarious. Cool blade though

The XL makes the cut to be considered a considered a Navaja so it's not too big there are much larger antique Navajas out there. For it's size it's pretty light weight and you may be surprised how easy it is to conceal despite it's large size. Once you come to grips with the true purpose of a Navaja why will be easily understood.

The Espada XL is a real modern production Navaja with a super strong lock and I don't know of any company that makes one. Few (very few) companies (maybe just blade smiths) make true replicas of antique Navajas, they may be functional but nowhere near as well made as a Cold Steel modern Navaja made with better materials, much higher durabiliity, and the fit and finish CNC technology can produce.

Again I don't know of any other knife company than Cold Steel that sells true to purpose modern day high quality upgraded Navajas to the general public.

People love and humor them. some say they are ridiculous. Whatever they may think these are not toys they are formidable edged weapons. I like them to admire. They can do most utility (non combat) tasks that require large blades but even if used to cut water melons I still respect what they are.

What there is a lot of are Navaja shaped folders small or large marketed as Navajas. A folding locking knife shaped like a Navaja whether very large, medium. or small, is not a Navaja. A Navaja is typically HUGE and meant to be. and is a serious combat oriented very large edged weapon. That is what the design excels at.

Navajas were made to be concealable replacements for swords at a time when edged large weapons were primary combat tools for both defense and offense and swords were outlawed.

I would consider the Espada XL to be in the medium size range of Navajas.

The Espada large would be a boderline small Navaja but really a large pocket knife. The medium espada is just a standard pocket knife not a Navaja.

I feel the term Navaja has been hijacked distorted and used as a marketing gimmick to sell folding knives (they may be good folding knives) that are not Navajas.

Or do this.

That was plenty big. Why didn’t Indy run?😆
I see someone doesn't remember Cheech and Chong's "The Corsican Brothers".

If I wasn't such an idiot, I would have included the clip. Apologies. 😁

Hi I have many Cold Steel knives and all.3 early Espadas with the aluminum and black with silver end caps. I have them in a case since I purchased them.
2 med with aluminum end caps.I.had them all engraved with my name and were some of the first Cold Steel knives I purchased. Would you say the engraving would lower the price if sold?

Can’t really ask for valuations without a paid membership here, per the rules. Anyway, I wouldn’t pay anywhere near full price for something with such an engraving.

Thank You, jux t I didn't ask for a price, I asked if the engraving would lower the price. Now I know. I love them the way they are.
