Is the factory edge convex?

I know that CRK recommends sharpening with sharpmaker or lansky, 18-20 degrees being best, but it looks to me that the factory edge on all my CRK's is sort of convex.

The factory edges are convex, but I have never had a problem touching it up on a sharpmaker.

Thanks for the responses. So is it essentially like adding a micro-bevel to the convex edge? or do you basically reprofile it. Do you guys use the 40 degree slots?

On the sharpmaker, you are adding a micro-bevil to your edge.
Unless you re-profile the blade first, using the 15 degree slots (30 inclusive) will only get the shoulders and you will not reach the apex. Because of this, use the 20 degree slots. (40 inclusive)
If your blade is not terribly dull, you can probably just use the corners. This seems to work better in my experience.

Good luck!

I have a loaded "strop bat". Have kept it sharp with that since I have owned it. I start with the black then green then pink then the bare leather. I now have a semi polished "factory" edge. Although, I think it may be due for a proper sharpening soon, maybe after I strop it a couple more rounds, depending on what I use it on.

It is convexed and the sharpmaker at the 40 degree setting ( 20 degrees per side ) works perfectly.
