Is the Farmer X the best Alox SAK made?

This has everything i want in a Swiss Army knife. I like that its wider too.

It’s my favorite sak now. I still do like the 91mm ones. Having a shiny new red sak is just cool. But of all my knives, i would just take my Farmer X.

Yes, it is one of the best SAK's. But then, I am very prejudiced toward alox in general over the cellidor that I consider an inferior handle material. I've long felt that that the pioneer and cadet are the best SAK's you can have for real world EDC. Anything added to the pioneer is just gravy on the 'taters'.

Is it the best?....couldn’t tell ya, mine fell out of my pocket weeks ago when scooping my neighbor’s driveway and is buried somewhere in a snowdrift.
Hopefully it turns up *fingers crossed

Definitely a personal thing, for me in alox harvester and electrician are good all rounders but I like the pruner and Solo as well depends what I'm up to.

That would suck.
Time for a belt pouch or buckaroo slip case for you.:D

I think the Pioneer X is the best all around; the Farmer’s saw is usually extraneous and makes the knife just a little too thick for my EDC - and I “need” scissors in my EDC SAK, which means the “base” Farmer doesn’t make the cut. However; when I’m heading out to the woods, the Farmer X gets the nod as my companion knife.

For context, I think the Cadet (and its tools) too small, and prefer the larger framed knives. For EDC, I have a Pioneer X in my pocket 75% of the time and a modified Climber the other 25%

I keep mine in my cargo pocket most of the time. Haven’t lost it yet.

There is no “best”. There’s only what’s best for your purposes.

I recently picked up a Victorinox 7, aka Harvester. It’s the best alox SAK for me, but you might hate it!

Despite being excited about it at first I ultimately had to let it go because I could not pick it up over my SwissTool spirit that has pliers (pot lifting, opening knots, squeezing fishing weight etc).

Not for me, too thick and I don’t need or want the scissors, plus the saw is unwanted as well due to always having a saw in my Rebar and an axe/chainsaw nearby.

The best Alox for me was the now discontinued Wenger SI with the bail instead of the annoying keyring.

Could be the best. I haven’t been tempted, though. I have the Pioneer X and also a Farmer. If we take the kids into the woods with a Kelly kettle, I take the Farmer. I have the Pioneer X on my desk.

But to be honest, for overnight camping I am a heathen and take my trusty cellidor Huntsman...

Scissors, saw, awl, two blades, etc. The corkscrew I use a lot for everything other than opening wine bottles! Undoing soaked and freezing bootlaces mainly. The parcel hook is excellent for unhitching gaiters in the cold.

Love the Alox SAK’s but can’t imagine one displacing my Huntsman. It is as near to my perfect SAK as it gets! :)

Its a shame that we can't like a post more than once!!

In spite of all the many many knives that has come and gone in my life, mostly gone, my old war horse Wenger SI is the one that I will never get rid of, and is my go-to pocket knife if I'm gong someplace that I'm not sure of conditions. This, in spite of my love of small coin pocket little knives like the Case peanut and SAK classic.

Kind of like in spite of all the little Glock 43 and 42's, Sig 365, Ruger LCP, I still love the old Boat anchor 1911A1.

I’ve carried mine every day since I got it. It also acts as an anchor to keep my keys from sliding out of my (crappy) uniform pants when I’m in the truck. Is it the best? I don’t know.

It’s the best for me.

The basic black Pioneer is my favorite but I carry the Pioneer X more because I use scissors often. The Farmer goes on hikes with me because I’m always looking for walking stick material. Some times I’ll carry my nylon scaled Huntsman so I can have both saw & scissors. But that’s a little large for pocket carry so it rides in a belt sheath.
