^ Blade HQ links are okay right? 😅 There’s the knife in question.

My local vendor has the Fox 658 in a different steel though: 4119 Nitro-B. Probably an earlier or later version of the 658. Is 4119 Nitro B an appropriate steel for big blades? I’d appreciate your insights as I can’t seem to find info on this steel online.

Many thanks and Merry Christmas folks.

Is this your first Khukuri? I have no experience with that steel, or N690 for that matter. I have a couple of Khuks, and I believe that a springy carbon steel is best suited to that type of blade. Paging Steely_Gunz Steely_Gunz for this one, he’s our resident Khukuri expert.

ETA: if you’re in the market for the tactical black Khukuri look, Spartan/Kabar makes a nice one at a great price.

I don’t know much about N690 or Nitro-B, but in general with a large chopper type blade you want a really tough, lower hardness steel, something like 5160.

If you want a legit kukri at that size and around that price point and are willing to wait 5-6 weeks, you can have a semi custom kukri made in Nepal from Kailash blades.
