Or just the idiot wielding it?? :grumpy:
I posted this http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=755007 back when I first got my Izula..
I'm really a careful person.. really I am.. been around knives all my life.. but until recently never owned really good knives...
First and last time (until recently) that I really cut myself with a knife was when my grandfather (a master sharpener) gave me his pocketknife when I was young and I accidentally closed the blade on my finger and literally cut a chunk of meat out of the side.. for years my finger looked deformed..
All was good until I got the Izula and promptly sliced my hand which I spoke of in the above post.. and since them I've been cautious when wielding the little devil..
Then, 2 weeks ago I had to open one of those confounded plastic packages that is welded shut along the side to get my new bow sight out and installed on my bow.. I grabbed the Izula and started cutting away.. now remember, I've been bitten by the Izula before so I was being careful.. however not careful enough when the blade sliced through the package and went point first into the side of my left index finger... yep, point first till it hit bone.. hurt like a sumbitch... but since it didn't really slice, more of a stab, the bleeding stopped in oh.. 15 minutes or so of direct pressure.. and I slapped on a bandaid and went about my business in pain....
Now, after this happened, I regained the much needed respect for the Izula and swore up and down I wouldn't let the little beast bite me again..
Until the very next day that is... not even 24 hours had passed and I found myself needing to trim a piece of plastic for a multimedia outlet in my bedroom wall... I looked down at the Izula and said "uh uh!".. but for the life of me I just couldn't think of anything else to use... I looked again.. and told myself not to do it.. then I got that stupid feeling of, hey, you're talking to yourself, just be careful with the damn thing and get on with it..
So I grabbed the Izula and started trimming away.. being EXTRA careful to keep my other hand well away from the blade.. and then, damnit to hell, something, I don't know what, slipped... and hit my finger.... at first I thought nothing of it.. then my finger.. yes, my left index finger that got stabbed the day before, started feeling cold... I looked at it and saw that distinctive red flow coming from the top of my finger.... I couldn't even make it to the bathroom fast enough before I was bleeding all over the floor..
So what did I cut?? how about 80% sliced off the top of my knuckle.. not talking skin here.. I'm talking the meat and everything.. huge flap of knuckle....
Well, it basically didn't stop bleeding at all.. running under water just kept it from looking so bad and would have probably resulted in my fool self bleeding to death.. so I wrapped it with a towel and found the biggest bandage I could find to wrap my finger.. yes.. I most definitely should have gotten stitches.. and now, 2 weeks later it still hurts like hell and I can barely bend that finger...
So, that's 3 strikes now with the Izula.. all on my left hand.. and 2 on one finger... lesson learned. I think... use the right tool for the job... the Izula is made for slicing things.. and slicing it does quite well I gotta say.. I have no doubt I could kill an elephant with that little blade..
so is the Izula inherently evil?? the jury is still out.....
