Is the Junglas considered a "bowie" type knife?

Here in Mississippi it is illegal to carry a bowie knife and butcher blades. No definition for this other than that sentence.

Interesting. I would say you would need to look in to the law and the definition of “bowie” under Mississippi Weapons Law. My opinion is “no”, but that won’t help you.

It falls under Mississippi concealed weapons law. It also says anyone who sells a bowie or knuckles in MS must keep records of sales. :thumbdn:

Eh, the law doesn't say anything other than bowie knife, dirk knife, butcher blade etc. It doesn't classify WHAT a bowie knife is. Course as far as I know that law has been in effect since like 1870's.

Yeah I can conceal carry a handgun with a permit but, can't conceal carry a "bowie". I guess I'll just strap the Junglas whenever I get it onto a pack or wear it on my belt. I guess as long as I don't threaten anyone or walk around being suspicious then I will be just fine.

Also on the selling part, it says merchant or dealer must keep record of sales.

Just a question where are you planning on carrying the junglas cause if you are in the woods I don't think you would ever have a problem with it

I would not try to conceal the Junglas around here. The law is left vague to allow the officer room for interpretation. Since the Junglas is such an imposing beast, I would think that it would not be hard for the officer to argue that it is a bowie or butcher blade in his eyes.

Just curious, where in MS are you?

Columbus. Yeah I wouldn't have it concealed more than likely it would be strapped to a pack or something.

Wow. Dumb Law. Since Bowie covers a pretty vague ground, I'd have to go with yes. Technically I think it would need a clip point to be a Bowie. But you can't expect Joe q Copper to know that

Yes, the Junglas would be considered a bowie. Sorry man. Where I live it would be classified as a machete. Legal in the county, probably not in the city. Knife laws are vague and empower prosecuters to have something on a "bad guy." Actually I'm capable of carrying a Mac 10 in places I couldn't carry an Izula. Stupid.

Well no point in getting the Junglas if you can't conceal carry it

Just N of Pascagoula here.

You should be fine with it in your car, or in any type of woods/hiking scenario. I wouldn't strap it to my pack and walk around town w/ it.

Most laws that say Bowie really mean a large fixed blade knife, so yes you are kinda screwed, Texas has the same law but here you can carry up to 5.5 inches of fixed blade as long as it is not double edged.

Georgia just passed SB 308. We are waiting on our RINO governor to sign it. It will let ordinary citizens carry a knife with up to a 5" blade concealed without a permit. Who can say what a Bowie is? It's a big knife, a BFK. While the Junglas has a drop point and not a swedged clip point, some might say that is not a Bowie. But who really knows? We have no idea what Jim Bowie's knife looked like. I'd say the Junglas is a Bowie.

I would think that trying to carry a Junglas concealed would be like trying to carry a Ruger Super Blackhawk with a 9 inch barrel concealed. Not very practical to say the least.

That certainly does not mean that I don't really want a Junglas. Some day ..

For all who say carrying it concealed is dumb, you have to remember that carrying it in a pack or whatever is likely to be considered "concealed" as well.

What a terribly written law. Sadly, sometimes that is by design.

The simple truth is that even though those of us who are knife know that a bowie is a knife that has some specific features that make it a bowie, your typical cop or everyday person does not. They think large knife = bowie.

Personally, I wouldn't let it sway me from owning and carrying one. Just don't be the nail that sticks up and you won't be the nail that gets hammered down.

print out a picture from the ESEE website and take it to your local cop shop to see what they think it is? (and while they're making happy noises about the knife, subtly point out the ESEE LEO discount program...)

Unfortunately when we start talking concealed weapons law and weapons law in general, what the local cops think may not do him any good if what they "think" isn't what the next cop or prosecutor "thinks".

Even the best written weapons law sections leave something up to interpretation, which is unfortunate.
