Magnum Warcraft Tanto

17" (43.18cm) overall. 12" (30.48cm) black DLC coated CPM-3V carbon steel tanto blade. Black G10 handle. Full, extended tang. Lanyard hole. This Cold Steel item is from Lynn Thompson's personal collection and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Lynn Thompson. Black Secure-Ex belt sheath. Boxed.

Does anyone have any info on these?

The story is that Lynn used to put up a handful of knives from each design, occasionally releasing them here and there. What comes out of the collection can range from common to pretty rare. I'm not sure how they were officially sold, but Cold Steel's Ebay page, and occasionally dealers offered them.

I bought a Swift II on eBay from the Lynn Thompson collection. Came in the old style box sealed up with the hand signed card like in the picture. I think it’s pretty cool, I’ll take a couple pics of it tomorrow if anyone wants to see them.

That's awesome, definitely post some pics. I saw a few listings offering Lynn Thompson collection Gurkha Kukri's in Carbon V made in Tiawan. I was under the impression that Carbon V knives were all made in the USA.; that they transitioned to SK5 in Tiawan. Perhaps pre-production models with left over Carbon V from the Camillus bankruptcy?

That type of claim is precisely why I don't place any stock in most of these listings for knives from the Lynn Thompson Collection. If the knife's configuration doesn't match what we know about Cold Steel's manufacturing history, is a piece of paper supposed to give it legitimacy, assuring us that somehow the details make sense but leaving it up to us to speculate about how it came to exist? Absent a video from Lynn handling the knife and explaining its background and significance, I would never buy a knife marked both "Carbon V" and "Taiwan," especially on eBay.

I'm friends with a dealer that bought a huge pile of Lynn's stuff, if it's at Blade Runner Outpost I know those pieces are legit.

Are you able to ask your friend about some details regarding the collection, particularly what Lynn told him about it when he sold him the knives? Is it just a sampling of products from the Cold Steel catalogs over the years, as T tltt indicated, or is there more to the story?

I found this when I was looking for a Cold Steel Swift. I had no idea about the Lynn Thompson collection but I thought it sounded cool and this was the only new in the box one I could find on Ebay. I paid more than it originally listed for, $216, but I wanted it so I didn't care. It had been sitting for quite some time as it was very dry and stiff, but with some oil and working it for a while it now runs smooth as can be.
That's the seller I bought it from, he has a lot of other items from the Lynn Thompson collection for sale.

It finally arrived today after taking the USPS scenic route. The primary grinds are symmetrical, and the overall quality is indictive of pre-GSM production. The balance is better than I expected, and it is shaving sharp out the box. The only negative was the $450 price tag, but for an out of production model it is not to be unexpected. I'm a big fan of Crucibles CPM-3V.

Congrats - that’s a very nice piece, and it’ll likely appreciate considerably in collectible value.

I’ve wanted one of these for years…but I settled for the San Mai version. Of course, I bought it a few years ago on sale at Midway for $188, so I have no complaints.

I do wonder they still offer the Magnum Tanto XII in 3V and not the Warcraft with the DLC. I’m guessing it’s because of cost, but I’d bet that they’d sell more of the 3V versions than anything else. They never last very long on eBay when they pop up.
