Is the Manix 2 lock supposed to be this difficult?

I got a Manix 2 yesterday and love everything except the lock.

When the knife is open and the blade is locked, it takes quite a bit of force to disengage the lock.

I have to really pull down on the lock, it wont move... then it finally "clicks" and it comes down. Am I just used to the Axis lock? I'm thinking about sending it back to spyderco...

I just received mine yesterday as well!
Mine is pretty stiff, but the only thing I can compare it to are my Benchmades. By comparison, my Benchmade Axis locks are much easier to operate than the Spyderco Ball Bearing Lock on my Manix 2. I've been opening and closing it quite a bit last nigt and this morning. It may be just me, but I do think it is getting a bit easier to operate than when I started out.

Cheers.

sounds about right, time to build up some muscle in your fingers, if you've been babying them with the smooth as silk AXIS lock.

i think that's what makes the lock so good. it feels much more secure than the axis lock. when i handled a mini grip with the axis lock, it just felt cheap, and the idea that those 2 measly springs are what provide tension don't do much to comfort me. just my opinion. it should break in tho.

I have had a few Manix 2s, and some are easier than others. The "click" you are experiencing is a burr on the lock, I had one like that. If you are adventurous, you can take it apart and remove the burr, otherwise it will eventually go away.

Are you holding both sides of the lock and pulling it back, or just using your thumb on one side of the lock?

No, theres no chance of it working with just a thumb. I'm using two fingers. I'll keep working it for a week or so and see if it loosens up any or if I get used to it. I guess at least there is no chance of it disengaging by itself.

Mine were both very stiff at first. They break in, and are much easier to use after a while, although they'll always be stiffer than the AXIS. Just keep playing with it and it will happen faster.

Yes to your post and the one immediately above. The funny thing was that after getting used to the Manix 2, I now unlock my Axis knives from both sides, the way I unlock the Manix 2. :)

A LOT of people will tell you that the lock will wear in.

BUT, the stickiness doesn't come from the lock interface (ball bearing to blade tang) at all. The stickiness comes from the plastic post (which the spring rides on) getting caught on the spring. The fix is to sand a ramp onto the spring post, allowing the spring to glide over the post without catching.

I may film a YT video showing this in detail, if you'd like.

They are stiff thats why I do not prefer the ball bearing lock at all, plus I think it ruins the look of the knife
