Is the Manix C95 worth twice as much as a manix 2?

So the only place where I can see a C95 for sale has it listed at twice the price of a Manix 2, and judging by the threads on the exchange, this is pretty much par for the course. The question I want to ask is: is the Manix worth twice as much as the Manix 2 as a user?

Oh, and off topic, but is it possible to get a Krein-reground Manix 2 anywhere? I live outside the US, and I'd rather not order a Manix 2 and then pay shipping both ways.

Cheers

I have heard that you can get Tom Krien to order a Manix 2 for you, regrind it, and then ship it to you.

I'd save my money and go with a Manix 2, sure the Manix 1 is a great knife but the prices thay are going for now are just ridiculous. I'd rather spend the money I saved on an additional Spyderco knife :D.

I suppose if you want one bad enough then it would be worth it to you. You're asking the question to everyone, so my answer is no.

Manix 2 is not quite as big as the C95, but it's definitely still a very solid folder. Not sure why the hollow-ground blade wouldn't work for you, but everyone has their preference I suppose.

If you have to have a FFG blade, then maybe you're better off plunking down that kind of coin for what you really want.

Pretty sure that you'd find the Manix 2 plenty capable though.

Thanks. My limit for all knives is actually around 150, and it's helluva difficult finding one for that price!

Well the Mini-Manix is the model the Manix II is based on and therefore comparable.
The C95 Manix is just a much larger knife and heavier built with thicker blade stock. Same thicker stock for the Mini Manix. I find the original Manix's to be better knives but that's just my preference.

That said, there should be no reason to snub the Manix II esp. if price is a concern. It's a fine knife to be certain.

Here a CE Mini-Manix and a CF Manix II in S90V:

If you can live with a combo edge in a Mini Manix, they go for under $100 at times (even NIB). Good luck. g

I had four Manix 1's, three large and one mini. I sold them because I didn't use them. Super fine knives but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that for all practicality, they aren't worth twice as much as the M1 but they are worth owning and pursuing if you want a C95 bad enough. I'd get a Manix 2 S90V before I pursued a C95 at this point. The blade stock is a tad thicker on the old models but IMHO, the buck stops there. After the blade stock thickness all you're really choosing between is the larger size of the C95, the steel and the locks.

I have several of each. As a collectible, the original Manix may be worth twice as much as the Manix 2, mostly because it is discontinued and will become more and more rare.
As a knife, the Manix 2 is better, especially because of the lock. For the price of an original Manix you can get an S90V Manix 2.

Collectability has nothing to do with actual usage. Whenever a Spyderco model is dropped from the line you have a lot of price increase just because it's not widely available any longer. So, I always use the models I can easily obtain.

If you're after the big knife, keep in mind that the Manix 2 will eventually be released in a larger form factor. This might be a ways off, though, as it's not in the 2010 catalog (but that doesn't mean it won't be released in 2010). I seem to recall a mention that it will be larger than the original C95 Manix with at least a 4" blade.

No. In fact the manix 2 is a better edc. IMO......

+1

I picked up a C95 a while back and really wasn't very impressed. Big, bulky, and just felt awkward in the hand. I think the only thing it has going for it is the flat grind and the title of being one of Spydercos largest folders made. I don't own a M2 anymore either but of the two the M2 is the one I would keep for a user.

As a typical user in my opinion no. The Manix 2 is one hell of a knife at a hard to beat price.
