... of "bed for testing steels" to the Manix 2?

Not bashing the M2 but, as mentioned before by other forumites, M2, (featuring 154CM, CBBL, G10 handles + full liners, but not FFG on regular model), seems to be directly aimed at BM's die hard fans - while the Military, packed with innovations that tore conventions apart a decade ago (nested liners, eccentric pivot, stepped lanyard hole...), is pure Spyderco breed and a great example of thinking outside the box

Seems to me like the Manix 2 gets new steels, cosmetic facelifts and R&D time (translucent FRN), while the Millie is only getting Ti / fluted Ti handles (stretching a bit the "adding lightness" theory).
Thanks God and Roger (not necessarily in that order ;)) for the M4 version, whenever that may come to life, but that was a third party initiative, not a Spyderco sprint run anyway.

So, will we get to see some new steels on the Military platform?

As I said over on the Spyderco Forum, in the past six years there have been CF/S30V, CF/BG-42, CF/S90V, Foliage Green G-10/D-2 Orange G-10/S030V, Digi Cam G-10/S30V with both plain and black blades, Black G-10/black S30V, plus a left hand and titanium framelock version of the Military. It has also grown a second liner and had its jimping refined. All that on a farily expensive platform that was eight years old in 2004 and is now the culmination of fourteen years of refinements. All that, except for the M-4 version, on Spyderco's dime.

Manix 2 is, by comparison, a baby, still growing, still attempting to make itself a place in the lineup. It is also less expensive, so less risky to experiment with and more appealing to third party sponsored runs, which have accounted for several of the variants to date.

I love the Military, it's my favorite knife of all time. I recently acquired a 440V variant and I've been carrying that every day since it arrived. In my humble opinion, the Military is and will be one of the best (Top 5) folders ever created period. I'm taking this time to plant a small bug in the ears of those that can make it happen...

Sal, are we ever likely to see an SE Military in any other steel than S30V?

I only ask as I've grown rather dependent on my 440V SE Millie, and have enjoyed this steel's ability to endure rather abusive environments.

I know serrations generally aren't as "popular" but IMO the 440V Se Military holds a rather unique status for those of us who have had the pleasure of putting them to hard work on a regular basis. In extreme circumstances this knife really shines.

The 440V Se Millie supply is drying up out there, and we need something to replace this legendary brute.
