First post ever!

Like many of you I've just purchased the ZT0770 because it was my only alternative to owning a 0777. But it's very plain-jane in appearance. For all of you who are more experienced, is this knife a good candidate for pimping? What could be done with the scales, for example? Coupled the black be removed and anodized various colors?

Any and all answers would be greatly appreciated.

The Aluminum is going to be very limited in production, why ruin the scales? The knife is pretty darn cool as is, it's not flashy, not attention grabbing. If you want something super flashy with lots of various color choices, the Leek, Sallion, and Blur are your best options.

Was the 0777 M390 out of your price range? You can get lucky as they pop up on dealers pages. I just scored one last week for a killer price too compared to the gouging Ive been seeing. As for the aluminum handled 0777? Anything is pimpable. The question is how much do you want to invest in a cheaper knife that it is. IMHO though the 0801 is a better option if customizing is your desire. The titanium handles are a bit easier to modify by most pimpers. Aluminum can be shaped but not many guys doing mods have access to the equipment to color the aluminum as its a chemical process, not heat and electricity like titanium. One option is to have the handles modified to have a hammered or chiseled look and then send them to a paintball anodizer for color. But that your easily looking at $100 if you want it done right. Bottom line is that its possible but not cost effective. One thing that would be relatively easy to do with that knife though would be to acid and stone wash the blade. That would give some nice contrast. And if the handles have steel liners on both sides to support the aluminum you may be able to get custom scales made out of your composite of choice.

Has anyone actually heard production numbers of the 770 aluminum?

I never heard any solid numbers. And this isnt a dig on KAI but even if a number was thrown out there the chances of it being close to that number are rather slim.

Hmm, maybe that's why stopped releasing numbers...

I don't like the feel of aluminum. I'll take titanium every time. Personal choice differs.

There is the regular production 770 with CF scales on the way too. That might solve some of the pimping desire.

I love the more utilitarian look of the aluminum, the CF is just too much bling for me.
