Im thinking of getting one.

Only concerns are that it is too tactical. The sheeth looks like it could kill on its own.

Is it a good user knife without the bells and whistles or is just bells and whistles?

I have an older Nimravus I've use a lot when car camping. My newer one I've not used as much but it's a very nice knife. The guard extends down a little more on the newer one.

The Nimravus is a nice, modest sized knife. I don't think the spear point version would upset anyone because of it's size or shape.

The version with the sand colored G10 scales is maybe even less tactical looking.

At a blade length of 4.5 and and an overall length 0f 9.45 the Nimravus continues to surprise and please. I think maybe from the photos or something folks think the thing is bigger than it really is.

Of the many variations in steel and handle material I consider the 140 'Nim' to be the 710 of the fixed blade world (When it comes to Benchmade...)

One of my very favorite surprises was the discontinued Cub series, this with the same scales and a shorter 3.4" blade.

Very well balanced and a pleasure to own and use, the Nimravus is a terrific alternative to a larger folder when you don't want or need to worry about folder mechanics, i.e. closing on ya!

Bottom line, good knife.

i'll be able to let you know in a couple days (hopefully), mine should be here.

btw- is that the sheath you want? they have one that looks more usefull in an urban environment. made of kydex with what appears to be some sort of thumb break.

The Nimravus is a fine fixed-blade for any task. The 154CM steel will sharpen up to a beautiful edge. I have two of them. Here's a size-comparison pic:

I have the smaller Cub. It's a good knife, and the kydex sheath was comfortable enough. I never EDC it anymore because it's too tactical looking, and I'm always surrounded by yuppie sheeple who freak at the drop of a hat. It's still my second favorite fixed blade.

I never considered the Nimravus as being very "tactical". It has always been a blue collar, good working knife for me. It's a good all around camping and hiking blade for sure.
