The Assist crkt hissatsu folder is hard to open. Is the NON-Assist crkt hissatsu folder hard to open?

i thought they all had the outburst ot whatever they call it?

IIRC ya can disable it, i havent ever handled one like that though.

FWIW the one i looked at wasnt bad but evidently a lot of them are a little difficult to open, lotsa folks complain about that so it must be.............

Don't know why this topic keeps coming up unless it's due to poor QC.It's easy enough to remove the assist spring - read the instructions that came with the knife. No probs with the assist Hissatsu I played with, which was BNIB. In fact the easiest knife to open with just the thumb stud that I've ever handled (ie no wrist flick). Negligible blade play (OK - not as good as Sebbie but comparable to BM 710 and tighter than SOG Trident), tight lockup & ergonomic handle. If yours is difficult to open I would suggest you send it back to CRKT for service/replacement

BTW - IMHO a truly wicked knife but too limited in functionality for an EDC. Much prefer a compact Glock for security/SD anyway

you can order one without assisted opening, or buy one with assist and just disable it.

its much easier to open without assist inmop.

The assisted-opening Hissatsus are often difficult to open at first, but if you work them open and closed repeatedly you can eventually get them opening pretty smoothly. I bought one for a friend who really likes his; it took a little while, but not that long, for him to get it opening suitably.

It's an excellent self-defense blade; it's not a utility knife. Saying, "I'd rather carry a Glock" is all fine and good, but a gun is not an option for everyone.

Hi Phil

That was tongue in cheek - we're not allowed to carry in Oz and AO's are also illegal in this state - may as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb ;)

I was at a knife store and the guy at the knife shop has opened a closed thousands of knives and he had a problem opening the assisted-opening Hissatsu folder.

Has anyone handled both the assisted-opening Hissatsu folder and the non-assisted-opening Hissatsu folder?

Is it the assisted-opening mechanism that is causing it to be hard to open? I read that it is made to be difficult to open and lubing it does not help.

I have the assisted. At first, it is hard to open without really wanting to open it. However, after I generously applied lubrication, removed the spring for a short while, then reinstalled it and continued to religiously open and close the knife it has become much easier to open. It just needs break in time.

I work in a knife store and have opened and closed thousands of knives and I have no problem whatsoever with opening either version. The spring retains the blade pretty firmly, though. Rather than trying to thumb it open like you would a normal knife, the motion is more like trying to slide your thumb between the stud and the handle. ;)

Strange that the non assisted is easier to open, when the idea of the AO is to simplify opening.

The idea of assisted opening is not to "simplify" opening. It is to automate part of it or even to speed it up. It's not strange at all to consider that a knife under spring pressure -- a blade that is connected to a spring mechanism -- might have more resistance than a knife that lacks this feature.

Do you only apply lubrication to the pivot area to loosen the knife up? How long do you leave out the spring?
