Title says it all.

I'm discovering the old Schrade carbon steel and finding the knives with it to be great users. I'm sorry I didn't pick up a few Schrades back in the day.

What is the old Schrade+ equivalant to? Is it any good?

I don't know what it's modern equivalent would be, but I've got an old Schrade stockman that I bought new in 1970 at the Lackland AFB BX and it's still going strong. Carried it everyday for 30 years and it never let me down.

The Schrade+ is the stainless steel. I've been out of the loop on the old Schardes for awhile, but if I remember correctly, is was likened to 440A. I never paid much attention to it, because almost all of my old Schrades are 1095.

The way they did their 1095, and the blade profiles, made them almost magical. The first one I sharpened took an absolute razor edge, and I was hooked. There are still a lot of the early Schrades available at reasonable prices. Although certain models do command a premium. If I was you, I would pick up one of the + versions, and give it a try. Just because some people don't like it, doesn't mean you won't.

That said, I have owned a few of the later knives, but never used them enough to give an honest review. Not sure if you have found it yet, but we have a Schrade subforum here. There are some extremely knowledgeable people there, and they can give you very particular answers to any question you have. Plus there are a lot of great pictures too.
