Is the BM 710 the best axis lock design, or are some of the newer ones considered better. I have always liked the look of it, but after buying one, decided I couldnt deal w/ the recurve. I may have changed my mind. Anyway, what are your thoughts?

The 806 Axis lock AFCK is just as good, and you don't have to worry about the recurve.

I personally really like the Ares too. Very versatile blade, compact size, very cool handle.

Then there is the 720. Excellent folding hunter and all around hard use utility.

The Osborne 940 series are extremely versatile with their narrow, paring knife blades and strong, and again very cool handles.

There really is not way to go wrong with the BM Axis lock folders in my opinion.

But the 710 is the best.

I agree with Steve Harvey's comments, but what is "best" really depends on your uses for the knives.

I don't know about "best", but the 710 blade shape is the best all-around utility shape I've ever used. The knife is a functional work of art.

Check out the BM 940 threads that are going on right now. It's a great knife.

The Ares doesnt have edge geometry suitible to many utility jobs, and i think the colored G10 is not that cool.

The 940 is the coolest, its the best looking and has the best handle materials, but i find that it is a bit small for my hands, and wider blades cut better.

The Griptillian as far as utility goes maybe the best one, it has two useful blade shapes, a versital handle, and its plastic, so it doesnt matter if you abuse it.

The 710/705, has a great tactical utility blade shape, and the handle is versitial, but as a "tactical" knife it loses points because the handle is not contored for retention.

The 806 has the deadliest blade (remember its name) and an excellent handle, but the handle is not comfortable in multible grips like the simpler handles, and the blade does not have excellent geometry for slicing work

The Axis TESK has the tactical handle of the AFCK, but has a more utility friendly blade, so in many ways it may be the Best Axis lock, i just wish that the handle could be modifed to accomodate more grips, there are other more versitial high retention handles, the Emerson COmmander for instance.

if i could only have one (i have both) i would take the axis AFCK over the 710 by a small margin, the AFCK handle fits my hand a LITTLE better, thats it, both are excellent knives - i know where a NIB 710 proto is, and when i save a little $$, i am gonna get it for sure!!!!

I consider the 710 to be the best. The 730 when done up in M2 steel and carbon fiber is a very close second.

As a poor holy cheapskate, I prefer the Griptilian. Nice grip (duh) and I love the shape and width of the blade, as well as that oval hole. Handles as easily as a Spydie Native, both opening front and reverse grips, too. Very left hand friendly. Can't wait to get a PURPLE MINI!

Once I picked up a friend's 940 Blue Osborne and that sucker BIT ME! Couldn't have been MY fault...:) So when I'm in the same room with that thin bladed bloodthirsty sucker, I stay back. Maybe the green ones are more mellow??

One day I'll get the AFCK II, too. (No, I didn't say "tutu." It just sounded like I did.)
