Is the Oz Roosevelt Demand Finally Waning?

They do seem to be pumping out a lot of them the past several months. My casual but persistent observations of the BF classifieds do seem to indicate the second hand Rosies are not selling nearly as fast as they used to, and asking prices are edging closer to the original retail prices.

Wondering if the market has been saturated, or if it's just demand for them starting to wane in general. Thoughts?

I've observed the same trend but am not knowledgeable enough to draw any conclusions from it. My guess is the same as usual: After a hype bubble that big, collective interest wanes at least a bit and prices settle.

(Not saying the hype isn't/wasn't justified. I've never owned a Rosie; they don't match my tastes and they're too pricey to gamble on the ergos.)

I own 5 Rosie’s currently and have been a Rosie enthusiast for a few years now. The secondary prices have come down significantly but they still sell at $800-$900 with no problem. They do sit a little longer but they do still sell.

What will be interesting is when they really start pumping out production with their new facility they’re building right now. This will be the true test of how much demand there really is.

The brilliant way that they have launched their company through mostly the lottery page on their site is that when they run the lottery for any knife , they immediately know how many people entered to pay their asking price. So if they have 1,000 people enter the lottery and there is only 40 available, they know what people want. This gives them a pretty good idea of the demand over time, especially when the secondary market has dropped.

Here’s what I have so far. I’m probably most proud to own a fairly early serial number. It’s the 4th from the top. It’s serial number 109 and it’s has Fat Carbon which was discontinued before serial number 180. The top Rosie is the DLC 15V, that’s probably my favorite. I’m still looking for serial numbers under 100.

Y'all seen some bargains around?

There were a few recently that were listed in the $800-850 range and still managed to sit for most of the day before being grabbed. One was listed as low as $790. A few nice ones available now for $900-1,000+ and they just sit.

Love the golf putters. I tried to snag one for awhile with no luck. Came close to a deal with a couple sellers, but was never able to get it done. Don't think Oz is putting them out anymore, either. At least I haven't seen a drop of those for a while.

Yeah, the golf putter is another one I really appreciate. It’s a low serial number, 158. Has a really amazing teal ano pivot and hardware with a very colorful Timascus clip that the camera doesn’t fully capture.

They’ve definitely started producing more. The market isn’t saturated, per se, but they’re no longer unobtanium. It pains me to say it but clones are now readily available and most likely curbing the secondary due to fears of purchasing a knockoff.

That’s sucks, any easy way to spot a fake?

The serial number is normally a giveaway. Also the plunge line on the first batch of counterfeits wasn’t like factory. Quite a few videos on YouTube showing off the fakes and talking about the differences. Check the “YouTube Shorts” videos as well. Some of them go into detail.

Had me sweating for a moment. The only one I ever thought had different action was the one on the bottom. It’s good after close inspection. I think the previous owner put skiff bearings in it possibly. Haven’t taken it apart yet to check but will soon.

I swapped my XL to skiffs, it's surprising that a knife at this price point has plastic caged bearings

I think the markup on them its slowly fading that is for sure. The XL seems to still fetch a bit of a premium. It appears a few here have not sold(?) in the $850 or so range. Over on reddit they still sell for that it looks like pretty quick.

Definitely easier to get on the secondary these days than 2 years ago when I got into this. At that time I recall a less than 30 minute "in" with a "seconds" and sometimes "unlikely thirds" in the thread.

If they open that new facility someone mentioned and really start pumping them out, I could see them go the way of the Norseman save for the really unique low volume variants.

I wonder if he has a new knife design altogether up his sleeve? If he does and sunsets the Rosie for a while then that will help.
