Is the RAT Pack Just Another Knife Cult?

One of the things I enjoy most about this forum is the emphasis on using knives as tools, and not just buying them and praising their maker. I am as bad a collector as anyone, and belong to other cults, too. I recently received the Rat Pack knife, and it is a beauty. But it actually works even better than it looks. How do you other Pack and forum members feel about this new "cult". I think the RAT Pack is different.

I think we are a cult, plain and simple. Mike and I are already making plans to buy property somehwere in South America with a small airstrip, a sizable compound and large enough vessels to mix Kool-Aid in.

Aha! I knew it!

I'm not much of a kool-aid drinker but when the states go to siht you just might see me down there with me RC-3 (and a chette)...

HD

I think with the conclusion of the RAT pack knife project and the addition of RAT chat we've forged tighter bonds. Tensions were running high around here for a bit and now that things are easing I see people coming together the way the RAT pack was intended to be.

I have really enjoyed getting to know everyone and look forward to continuing to get to know new and old members better.

Jeff- can we have mango flavored kool aid w/ a kick?

I think the difference between the RAT Pack and other "knife cults" is that the emphasis is on skills and knowledge, rather than on the knives themselves. It's not about cultivating the mystique of "magical superblades"- but rather about self-reliance, and the ability to tell the difference between what works, and what's BS.

No Kool-Aid for me, thank you. :)

I still say it is different from other knife cults I am in. Each cult has its own spirit or attitude. As a member of several such cults, I find myself spending more and more time over here. The posts are not just "Look at my new knife". Those are fine, too, but I learn things here about survival skills. This and the Wilderness & Survival Skills forum have become my favorites of all the Blade Forums. I also read and post a lot over on the Scrap Yard knife forum. Plus, there are some fun folks over here that don't take themselves too seriously. And I don't get into trouble mentioning "other brands" here. I appreciate the "Anything Goes" thread and Rat Chat, too. Now, I'll have some of that Kool-Aid.

I see it as a lot of pride in the tools we purchased (or in RC/Rowen's case, make), and you gotta admit, the damn things work great.... :)

I enjoy all the conversation with folk around here, and it doesn't matter the subject, I always learn something from the posts (even if it is a negative post). The RP knife project was many things to many people, but I purchased mine because it was unique AND it gave me all the same advantages as my RC-3 did. (Wonder how they did that! :D )

I don't think it is really becoming a cult or click, but more.... I do know that I spend more time in the RC forum then the others. I like the no BS part of it. And I like the fact that we don't feel the need to build up our faith in our blades by putting other manufactures down.

Cheers!

PS: Jeff don't forget to put Coffee on, I don't drink kool aid, and I do NOT want to be the last guy standing, running around trying to give CRP to THIS crowd! :)

So that's why you guys have been hanging with the Junglas a lot lately, scouting! Yea it would be easier just to take over a already setup compound.

You saw where Jeff admitted it IS a cult, Mr. Coffee! Now, have some Kool-Aid. :D

Jeff? Jeff who? :) No kool aid for this guy... sorry your all going to have to die with purple mustaches without me.... Sigh... left out again... :(

I don't know if I'm in the RAT cult, but I do have a statue of her:

that I burn incense to. Does that count?

Jeff, would you put the kettle on? I'll bring my own tea.
(This kitty has been called tea pot by some English folks, all of them drank tea ...)

Cult? Is simplicity a cult? I like the very down to earth attitude of the folks right here.
Jeff not making sales figures his main aim, but what he can put between people's ears.
The emphasis on knowledge and training -learn about something, try it and then share your experiences.
That concept has driven several contests and will continue to do so.

It stuck me as well that I wanted to put something like LK's post down, but didnt have the words.

All funny cult humor aside, the people here DO things, not just talk about it, and Jeff encourages the group to DO MORE, improve, train, learn, survive, etc. NOT just discuss it, not just think about what makes sense, but put into practice, to think for yourself, and never take someone elses advice as the only "right way" to do things. Now if that is based around the use of a knife or a skillset, well then, it's a "cult" I want to belong to. :)

Besides, I didn't have a pretty Orange knife in my collection....

1. Get out of my head, there is only room for a half dozen personalities in here.

2. I'm Treasurer. I graduated Phi Beta Ca$$ha from Jim Jones School of Accounting, send checks to me.
