Is the RatMastiff Chopper a replacement for the Battle Rat?

Sorry about the noob question. I've wanted a Battle Rat for a long time now and the RatMastiff seems like it would serve the same purpose.

The old RatMastiff was originally called the tactical Battle Rat, so it is a battle rat with micarta handles.

There looks to be a new knife with Res C handles that looks like the old battle Rat coming out with SR77 steel from Scrap Yard Knives.

Yeah I saw the BR looking SYKCO on the SRKW Forum I think. Looks VERY promising. Then of course, I could always just really save up and get a Fusion Battle Mistress. Hell, I might just end up with one of each if I can swing it!

I have the Mastiff, and I've used it quite a bit. The handles hurt me pretty badly with extended use. I've had it pretty much eat about three or four mm of flesh out of the part of my hand where the thumb meets the index finger a couple times. I've enver had enough sense to wear gloves though.

Regardless, I'd rather have a Battle Rat for the softer handles, and I'll probably be looking to trade my Mastiff for one and perhaps some cash here soon.

Without wanting to open a can of worms or anything, does anyone know why did they switch from Res-C to Micarta?

Micarta is generally held in higher regard because it looks better and is more high end. There were a lot of people that wanted SRKW to head in that direction. That is not the official word or anything, just what I have observed.

The New Black just came out yesterday. City is their best work in my opinion. OMFG is one of my all time favorite songs. Pick up Alien for sure. It is the only other album really close to bringing that brutal , insane sound found on City. The New Black is still really good, though. Nothing short of genius.

With Micarta you can sand the hot spots down to fit your hand and grip. I like the Res-C handles too but I haven't had a problem with my Rat Daddy in somewhat limited use. For any real serious brush cutting I would have on gloves for overall protection.
