I'm wanting to get into cold steel knives, having trouble deciding if I want the Cold Steel Voyager or the recon 1 right now I'm going to be buying them off of Walmart.com because I have a gift card. Is the Recon really worth the extra money? Which carries in the pocket better? Which Has a stronger handle? I'll be making my decision tonight and if anyone what's to chime in it will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Chris.

I can't speak for the recon 1, but I have a couple of Large Voyagers, and they are pretty high quality knives for the price. I might suggest sanding down the handle scales under the clip so it goes in and out of your pocket easier, but it fits nicely in most any pocket, from dockers to jeans. I carry mine daily and it hasn't disappointed me yet.

In my view, the Recon 1 carries just a little easier as it is thinner than the Voyager series. But they both rock. I love and carry each, so just get the one that you like the best. You are good either way. I'd say they are equally strong, and both have the killer Tri-Ad lock. No worries. Rock on.

You really can't go wrong with either one. I love the ergonomics and the slim profile of the Recon 1; however, I love the full flat grind and stonewashed finish of the Voyager clip blade. It comes down to what features you prefer and how much you want to spend. Like I said, you really can't go wrong with either one.

True. I've had an XL clip point Voyager for a few years, and I just got my first Recon 1 (4" clip point) recently. They'll both require a little tweaking of the pocket clip and/or scales so as not to be pocket shredders, but that's not too tough. I will say that the all G-10 scales on the Recon feel more "quality" to me than the plastic-over-aluminum combo on the Voyagers. They just feel a little more solid in my hand. I agree with 'noodle on the strength. I don't think you need to worry about either one in that area.

Cool, I've heard about the Voyager feeling a little "cheap". I think I'm going to go with the Recon 1 I just like the looks of that spear point better😄

The Recon 1 Clip-point has been discontinued recently and can be found for under $50 at certain dealers.

This version has a hollow-ground blade.

There is a chance that for 2014 they will introduce a new version with a full-flat ground blade like the XL has.

The recon 1 is what I went with.ive had mine for a year and cut just about anything that isn't metal. I have the tanto version because I like it, plus I think it penetrates better.

Man they really discontinued the clip point? Oh well I like the spear point better. Where did you get you knife for $40 buck? That's a good deal!

I owned both and chose to keep the Voyager. The FFG blade and slightly better feel (due to rounder handle profile) in hand won me over.

I went with a Code 4 over a Recon or Voyager. I think aluminum scales + the Tri-Ad lock is going to be Cold Steel's kryptonite in the future. Such a perfect combination.

I think it's a great looking knufe but that aluminum handle is going to get real slippery when wet. So that's why I won't buy it.

Doesn't even have to be wet. It's a sleek handle all around but it does look very sharp(pun intended). Heck, I think folks should get all three. :P

On the topic though, I enjoy the Voyager most of all. I am a stickler for having a liner in my handles and the general shape of the clip point is just right for me. Don't get me wrong, both are fantastic knives, but my vote goes in for the Voyager.

The Voyager comes in what I think is the most evil knife shape around, the XL, fully serrated, Vaquero.

I feel chills whenever I open it.
