Hey guys, Have you heard of the Round Eye tool and knife company's Hobbit? The mini version of the Warrior that Al Mar produced, (still does over in Japan by the way.) I love the Warrior but the Hobbit always seemed like such an exellent knife. Is it gone forever? Anychance we will ever see it resurected by another company? Thanks in advance for any help.

I wondered why no-one else picked up the rights?

It's not exactly a mainstream design, but there still appears to be good demand out there.

Who does own the rights to the design these days? Bob Taylor??

Jensen Elite blades makes somthing like guardless Warrior… their site is down for now :(

... and they apparently have a lot of angry customers without knives. Check the Good the Bad and the Ugly for details.

REKAT IS gone, the designs haven't shown up anywhere, but Benchmade did take on the rolling lock and has recently used it in their Red Class. Maybe they have an in, you could ask on their forums.

In an interview with Bob Taylor on Kelly Wordens site he mentioned a possible deal with Benchmade on making those again as part of benchmades black line of knives. It would be awesome to see them produced again.

That's good news, Cyblade.

I really didn't expect the patterns to be used again after such a (relatively) long time, even though I knew that BM picked up the Rolling Lock design.

The Hobbit is nice. Mine is a rare green one and trainer. I got it a the ROS 1995.

S/F,
CEYA!

Thanks guys , I knew I wasnt crazy for digging that knife. Oh I hope Benchmade comes through. You know with some of the disatisfied comments from Benchmade fans floating around these days, (about recent unispiring designs) something like this would be a shot in the arm for them.

It was very sad what happened with REKAT. Their Carivore and Carnivore Jr. were great knives, I have two Carnivores and one Jr. The SIFU was, perhaps, a blade too far for the rolling lock, although mine certainly seemed solid enough. But there were a number of others who had real problems with that knife and it is that one, IIRC, that put paid to the company.

Bob Taylor still owns the Warrior series designs (Warrior, Hobbit, Pocket Hobbit, Gaijin Warrior). REKAT was planning on adding the Pygmy Warrior (fixed blade Pocket Hobbit) to the line before they closed shop - I did the sheaths for the protos. Not confirmed, but I've heard some rumblings on someone else picking up that design and doing a limited run.
