....it looks like the S110V Shallot has a thicker blade.........or is the ZDP-189 blade thinner than normal? Is this true for all of them?

Mine was thicker than the ZDP189 model also. Also, it did not slice as well as the ZDP model but honestly I like the 110V model better.

The ZDP was made thinner than the rest. I posted up some mic numbers a while back. I'll try to look them up.

Thanks guys!! This sorta sucks......well not really. I've had my eye on a S110V model for a while now and I've got an itchy mouse button finger. :)

Looks like a winner to me.

It's a tough call between the two. So not wanting to break sub-forum rules, I bought 4 of each.

:D

Scratch that itch, and while you're at it, click twice--once for each :D

And I was about to post my pics as an example...

I prefer the thicker S110V Shallot, though the ZDP-189 version opens a little more smoothly.

I've got an issue with my newly arrived 1840CBZDP. The blade scrapes the inside of the frame on shutting. I have a black 1840CKT and the blade tip is perfectly centered in the frame on closing. The ZDP one has the blade tip as close to the inner frame as it can get (clip side), with the blade side touching the frame.

It's going to screw up the finish for one thing, and for another I don't like hearing it drag. You can hear it on opening and closing.

I emailed Kershaw USA through their support form but never got a response. Not sure where to go from here. Does Kershaw normally give attention to this type of issue?

Try tightening the pivot.. Often if its too loose.. It will touch.. Its a possibility..

Not sure about others, but on both my 110V Shallots, I can't actually move the pivot screw, the whole pivot turns if I try.
Basically, the female end of the Chicago screw is round, and therefore has no way to stay in place. Either way, blade is centered and snaps open as fast as anything I've ever seen.
All the thinness of the Leek family in a nicely sized blade and handle :D.

Trimcut123, thanks for the reply. At your suggestion, I have tried adjusting the pivot screw both looser and tighter, as well as tightening the frame screws (which seemed a bit loose for my tastes). After much fiddling, I managed to get it in one position where the blade doesn't scrape either side, but its a VERY small margin of error, and I doubt it will stay in adjustment. The blade is quite off center.

It's kind of killing me, because I *really* want to like this knife, without reservation. I've been scheming to get a knife in ZDP-189 ever since I first read Mike Haskew's article about it way back when. I love the black Shallot I have (it's been my EDC for close to a year now), so when I saw Kershaw was releasing the Shallot with a ZDP composite, I was ecstatic, especially at such a reasonable price.

I have the S110V version coming, it's in the mail as I write this. :)

For what it's worth, I don't think the S110V blade is thicker, as much as the ZDP blade is thinner. It's thinner than my regular Shallot, both in blade thickness and overall knife thickness.

misterx, one thing to remember is that the force of the frame lock can cause a blade to sit slightly off center. This is the nature of the beast. There is pressure from the frame lock pushing the blade off center. If there was no pressure, the lock wouldn't spring into the position needed for a secure lock up when open. One of my ZDP Shallots was like this, and with a little time and use, it worked itself back into position.

I got a reply from Kershaw, and I think what I'll do is send it in and let them be the judge if it's "off" or not. Being a thinner blade and thinner overall, it may be that the ZDP version just has tighter tolerances. My gut feel though is that the knife I received is not quite right, but I'll send it in and see what they say.

I hope to be chiming in with some first hand experience with the S110V version soon. I really like the "stonewashed" finish they use on the blade... my Leek S30V w/G10 had the same finish. Beautiful knife. http://www.vaughnsphotoart.com/ebay/leek/IMG_3172.jpg
