Hi everyone,

Is the busse sar 6 a good chopper? how is it compared to the bk2 or trailmaster as a chopper?

I will appreciate any feedback or reviews on this particular knife.
Thanks>

I don't own a SAR6, but in general I prefer a larger knife for chopping. There just isn't enough heft in a mid sized knife. Particularly, there isn't enough forward weight to help bite.

With that being said, my son and I used my SAR4 to practice making an emergency shelter. I purposely only brought that knife and it worked fine. The SAR series are heavy and sharp and it went right through those branches like a light saber.

If you are looking for a dedicated chopper and have your heart set on a SAR, I would consider looking for a SAR 8 instead. Or you can get in line behind me and wait for the NMFSH.

The Sar 6 is a great multi purpose knife. It is one of those all around designs that functions very well for multiple applications.

This is correct! While it's no B11, it is retardedly sharp & holds an edge real well. Mine was one of the last few from the company store & It's probably my favorite Busse, well behind the B11, but for a mid-sizer, it does chop pretty well.

Having heavily used both the SAR 6 and SAR 8 I would pick the 6 over the 8 any day of the week as the extra length of the blade doesn't provide enough chopping improvement to make it worth the trade offs for other uses. A SAR 7 would be pretty interesting though as the SARsquatch is that size and one heck of a knife.

Oh, and it most certainly chops very well too! When you choke back on the handle it performs way better than you would expect it to chop for it's size.

Ok, time to split...

Your hands make that handle look small! I find that it has a lot of handle for my hand size but I do like the knife and agree with the multi purpose statements. It is not big enough to be a dedicated chopper but it is a great design for a fairly large all arounder. It's quite a bit of knife in my hand (but then I have smallish hands). It has a little more blade length than the Bk2 but not as much as a trailmaster at 9 1/2". I tend to think of the trailmaster as a comparison to something larger like the Basic 9 category. Dont have either of the knives you mentioned but I do have a basic 9 and the SAR6 will not stay with it when it comes to chopping. If you are looking for a chopper, I would move on up in size.

For a chopper, yes, I would agree... but, the SAR-6 does 'chop'. It's not a chopping machine, but it can chop. Plus, as mentioned, the blade length makes other chores much easier. I, personally, have larger (not XXL) hands and the SAR-6 & 8 fit my hands almost perfectly (I love the 6). :)
But if you want a chopper, I would wait for the NMFSH or get a BM, or B-11/10 or a Killa Zilla (or maybe a SAR-8, FSH, or NO {or some otherws I forgot}).
