Is the Sebenza 21 Large too large to be carried as an EDC? Or should I just get the smaller version?

I want a knife I can edc but could also use for those rare unforeseen events that might happen walking at night, or in emergency involving rescue.

I EDC a large Sebenza daily. I work for the most part in an office, although I'm out in the field quite a bit. I have no issue with the size of it. I perfer that large due to the fact that it fits my hands better.

Is a large too big for EDC? I'd say that the answer would depend on several considerations - your location, work environment, attire, intended use, hand size, carry preferences, etc. For me, I work out of an office most of the time so I'll typically carry a small sebenza down in my pocket. While I prefer the large sebenza for handling & aesthetics, honestly the Small will do everything I need a knife for +95% of the time.

Now, if I primarily worked in jeans or khaki's, I would carry a large or Umnumzaan clipped to my pocket - no question.

either one would be a good choice, the large is a decent sized knife and can do pretty much any reasonable cutting task, the small can do just about as much as the large BUT is super compact and lightweight. when i have mine on my person i can barely feel it.

as a friend of mine said "the small is everything you need in an EDC, and the large is everything you want" ;)

I don't think a large is too small if you clip it top the inside of your pocket. I think it's too big if you put it in the pouch, which is what I do and place it inside the pocket. I do not clip it to my pocket in fear of it coming out and losing it.
I LOVE my small Benz and am wanting another.

as a friend of mine said "the small is everything you need in an EDC, and the large is everything you want" ;)

He beat me to it and quoted me to boot. lol

I bought the small first and LOVE it! I was now sick with the CRK sickness and had to experience the Large. I LOVE it! And exactly as the quote states, the small is all I need, but there is something about having that extra thickness of Ti and extra Blade...And the fact it's so pocket friendly!

I wear Jeans and Dickies work pants and the Lg Seb carries very well.

I am just under 5'8" with a 32" waist and wear Dockers M-Th and 5.11's on Friday and I wear a Large Sebenza each day to work and also to weekend activities in shorts to dressed up at Church. I don't think the Large is too big at all and I have been accused of having "little girl scout" hands. The fact that my wife and I can wear the same gloves, have the same ring size and also wear a watch on the same notch means nothing. It is NOT too big.

I like the small Sebenza and own a "In God We Trust" model but it is just too small for what I prefer.

Going against what seems to be the general opinion on this sub forum, I greatly prefer the small Sebenza. I work around the general public 5 days a week selling sporting goods and still get negative remarks when I carry anything with a blade larger than about 3". I use my knives quite a bit at work and so far nobody has said anything when I pull out my small Sebenza.

Granted I am a bit biased because I generally won't carry any folder with a blade length over about 3.3" unless I for some reason need some real cutting power and cannot carry a fixed blade. I live out in the sticks in the Northwest and am outside a lot either hiking/woods bumming or maintaining my property. If I need anything with a blade length above 3.5" I feel as though I might as well also have the extra strength and simplicity of a fixed blade. Pretty much everyday I'll carry my small Sebenza (or similar sized folder) all day when out and about and then when I'm home I usually strap on a 4.5" fixed blade. For me its the perfect combo!

I too will go against the crowd here and prefer the small Sebenza, partially due to the stupid knife laws here in WA (Tacoma/Seattle do not allow any fixed blades period or folders over 3.5). I have medium sized hands and find that my small sebs do everything I need them to do. Then again, most of my folders are 3 " as well so I might have some bias.

I prefer the small for office, but like to go large in the weekends ;)
I have less trouble whipping out a large seb with strangers around than with my colleagues

I EDC a large (I`m always wearing jeans) and like it. It does limit the access to my front pocket a bit, but that`s ok.

I`ve tried a small, but I find it too small and also harder to open. So for me a large Sebenza is the way to go. ;)

the large carries much smaller than the dimensions would lead you to believe.

also, the small is much smaller than the dimensions would lead you to believe, in comparison with the large.

ymmv.

I prefer my large Insingo. It carries well. Local carry laws might be something you might also want to consider.

When thinking about the size difference it is helpful to really think about how much handle you like on your knife. The small will do pretty much every cutting task that the large will but gives you less area to hold on to, but it completely disappears in the pocket.

I've never found my large Seb to be a problem in ANY pocket, even shorts. I also prefer the larger handles that allow me more room to grip the knife. Just my two-cents :D

I definitely prefer the large. I had a small regular and sold it. Not that it wasn't as stout and solid as the large, or even as comfortable (I have small hands). I just think the large works better proportionally. It's really not that big IMO. In fact, I would liken it to a Spyderco Stretch (but not as wide due to the hole). In place of the small, I found that there were too many Spydercos and other knives in that size range that I preferred, and tended to slice a lot better.
