Is the SH1A/ASH1 the first knife to go custom before production???

So I'm sitting here fondling my newly-shipped Bladeganza giraffebone SH1A/ASH1 (yeah, it's pretty flinkin cool - VERY polished and contoured handles. THANKS!) and wondered,

"Hey, this thing is customed and we didn't even get a production blade yet. Waddupwitdat???" (As if I'd complain about the two that I got. Yeah. Right. Not a chance. I love fondling these things - more than any other Busse I have. Must be them smooooooooth handles.)

So is this the first time this has happened? That Jerry goes Custom before Production? I found it odd and delightful at the same time.

And yeah, it's hard typing with one hand. . . because the other is fondling this knife.

Active Duty was a Custom Shop release before it was a production.

Not sure of the release timeline of the AD variants out there.

Although a 'custom' it was pretty much available to all who wanted one similar to the productions wasn't it? Or was it only available via the email offer?
