Is the Spyderco Manix Legal in California?

Per Penal Code 626.10, it is prohibited to carry on school grounds a folding knife with a blade that locks into place. Is this types of knife like the Manix/Manix 2 legal to carry in CA outside of school grounds and where there are no size restrictions?

Shorty answer is yes. Outside of restricted areas like school grounds that you mention, there are like no state laws about non auto folders. Folder laws are much less restrictive than fixed blades because laws on dirks and daggers are strict and like every fixed blade can be massaged to fit those definitions. They can be concealed even (unlike fixed blades).

There are a bunch of law and knife right sites you can Google to verify. Basically any non auto folder with 4" of blade or less, and you're fine to carry it any which way outside of explicitly restricted areas (schools, court houses, federal buildings, etc.).

Still worth checking laws for you specific area though

With a few exceptions like carrying on school grounds, into airports or government buildings, carrying switchblades/butterfly knives, belt buckle knives, and a few other obscure references, California state law has no restrictions on the size of knife one can carry in public. Under state law there is no size or blade length limit on folders carried openly or concealed, or fixed-blades carried openly.

However some cities/counties have their own length limits and restrictions. For example, Los Angeles city and county have a 3" limit on the length of blade that can be carried openly (both folders and fixed), but no length limit on folders carried concealed. There are exceptions to their length limit on openly carried knives, like carrying a knife for "legitimate" work or "recreational" purposes, etc.

There is nothing about the size or design of the Manix or Manix 2 that would make it illegal under CA state law to carry off school property.
